Fuji strategy is working..

Build a new factory and keep people waiting to buy your gear ... !!!

Hah ... Leica have been doing this long before Fuji thought of it! :D

...new optical lens factory in the Philippines. The goal: “the production to 18 million lenses a year by FY2015..."

How many lenses a year do leica produce I wonder?

Instead of replacing camera bodies model lines like Sony Nex every year or so, Fuji appears to be working toward establishing a range of lines currently. With their discontinuing 50% of their p&s stuff, this should free up production line for these new products (after retooling).

Going for a slightly longer cycle on their xpro line and introducing cheaper versions of their x mount lenses to be kit lenses for the new entry level looks like a pretty interesting strategy. The new low end line looks to be modeled after the new 16-55 zoom. Making it cheaper by using slightly slow af motors and no aperture ring but keeping to optical quality...

Xp2 looks to now be rumored for first half of 2014.

I think its great that theyae waiting till 2014 for the next flagship model. I hope its a fullframe offering - given that Sony is planning on doing that.

A full frame could make sense at least if you don't consider profit in the near term.

I've thought maybe that possibility is why the 56mm lens could be taking some time to release.
Maybe they will release rather a 50mm f1.4 that would be the "normal" on a FF model and short tele on the 1.5 bodies. And then model future lenses in the same way.
As Canon has done with the eos line and Nikon does with their DSLR FX and DX bodies.
Some DX lenses for dedicates use on cropped sensors and a full line of "FX" lenses for both FF and cropped and "FM" lenses for cropped only. I tested the 35 f1.4 by holding it against my 5Dii flange. The circle covers with some vignetting but not horrible but, goes quite soft at the edges. Of course you can only try this with the lens wide open and in near macro range. Who knows with software and sensor micro-lenses maybe the current 35mm f.1.4 could cover a 35mmx24mm (and other current lenses as well.
This is probably all just daydreaming. Maybe ..maybe not right?
What's in it for Fuji (more R&D and a longer profit cycle ?).

But how is this possible, given what we know about the relative size of the mount and the sensor???

FF is not going to happen.

Actually at a Fuji press conference a while back, they mentioned that it was theorectically possible to use a full frame sensor w/ some of the longer x mount lenses.

IMHO... I don't think Fuji is going ff on the xp2... I think they may have both an apsc and a ff body in the wings but may not announce a ff body unless they c a lot of Sony Nex ff traction. I would suspect an apsc body to be more ready to release then the ff one... Since it appeared that during the Fuji press conference, it seemed by the wording being used that any work in that area was very preliminary.

I think the fullframe move by Sony and subsequently Fuji wont be initially for a profit motive. It would be for brand prominence/stature. The camera would not have to conform to any of the tecnical restrictions/ constraints of the current line.

Fullframe is only necessary for legacy lenses really. Generally, APSC has been inferior to full frame, but I just don't see that in the X-Pro1 when say comparing it to a Canon 5D MKII.

I agree from a technical standpoint but having a full frame camera ofering will help sell more non full frame same brand cameras.

Only if the lens mounts can be shared. If Fuji is segmenting their cameras into XF mount for APS-C and an FF-compatible mount, I fail to see how this will help sell XF-mount cameras.

Imagine if Canon sold EF-S cameras and EF cameras and had no compatibility between them....
