The sensor is essentially the same w/ addition of phase detection cells. Over iq most likely the same. However, the rest of the digital path has been improved including the CPU...
If i remember correctly, they also added something similar to m43 world which has lens correction info, which should help improve iq for those shooting Jpg. Raw shooters, I don't believe this will make any difference unless they pass that info onto the photo sw (then it would be a sw dependent value add).
There is a rumor about more Fuji announcements coming during ces (January timeframe I believe).
I would go for xe2 if I wanted faster af and split image otherwise I think xe1 or xp1 should be fine for now. The prices even for used is going to be dropping.... There should be some great deals coming up for the Christmas season.

Sounds like a nice upgrade especially if you are using Legacy lenses. Anybody got theirs?

Sold my X-E1 and got the X-E2. Was it a good move? Probably not. I do love it, but probably not worth the difference ($400) but I am extremely happy with it.

Maybe, maybe not.
Fuji just released new firmware that will get the xe1 closer to the xe2 but the increase in auto focus speed will probably have you keeping the xe2 longer than you think...it's supposed to be at least as fast as the x100s (which is just great).
Now stop thinking about whether you should have bought it or not... Just enjoy and use it!!!
