Fuji X-E2: Anyone excited?

Nope, better AF is not my goal ...better IQ,yes
Mostly I use manual lens like Leica, Zeiss, Voight

Expecting Fujifilm Digital Fullframe release in 2014 to compete with Sony A7R......

Fuji X-FF1 ;)

Why is everyone so certain the X Pro 2 is going to be FF? I thought the way the mount was designed would make it physically impossible/exceptionally difficult to engineer something like simply stuffing a bigger sensor in instead of the APS-C one (I remember some Fuji exec saying this, but I could be mistaken). Something to do with the overall mount size or flange distance vs lens elements necessary to cover full-frame images (ie: oblique rays in the corners or vignetting)...
I don't think we are sure the next X-Pro camera will be FF, it could be the next X200 if other rumours are correct but I hope not. If Fuji were to bring out a FF X100s (X200) and still have a fixed 35 mm equivalent lens, in my mind that would be a big mistake. Any FF camera that Fuji could bring out would need to compete with Sony's new FF Mirrorless cameras (A7/7s). I have to say that had sony brought out the A7/7s last year I'd have bought one and it would have save me a lot of trouble. I'd gone through a Leica M9 and an Nikon d600 before settling on on my X100s bought earlier this year: I wanted a FF camera. I now have my X100s as a second camera to backup my X-Pro 1 and three prime lenses. I still want a FF camera but that is something that I cannot afford now as I have no job just now and no money, but if Fuji were to bring out a FF framed camera such as an X-Pro camera, once I could afford to I'd buy one most definitely! Regarding Fuji saying the current camera mount not being the correct mount for a larger sensor size, that suggestion has been shot down as Sony's X mount is the mount used in the new A7/7s camera and, if my memory serves me, the Cybershot (formerly NEX) are X mount cameras and those lenses can be used in the new A7/7s range of camera bodies (with vignetting or cropping) and the new lenses are FX lenses: in oherwords, FF X lenses. So that suggests to me that a FF framed X-Pro camera could be a FF censored camera using the current lenses with some vignette and/or cropping, and that would mean new FF frame lenses would have to come out too. (I've had in the last three years, after selling my Nikon D90: A sony NEX-5n A Leica M9 (sold and replaced by a Nikon D600) A Nikon D600 with 50 mm prime and the kit lens, sold to buy the X100s) A Fujifilm X-Pro1 and the first three prime lenses (bought before the Leica, X-Pro still own and enjoy) A Fujifilm X100s ( on my second one due a faulty first model (still owned for now until a FF Fujifilm comes out)) GAS Or what :-/

The XE1 price drops are extremely attractive.
I am so tempted at this point to sell off all my Nikon DSLR gear and buy into a Fuji APS system.
The way Fuji is supporting the X100 in my mind (not to be too dramatic ;) ) changes the digital landscape.
I'm going to take a few aspirin and see how I feel tomorrow.

Hmm feels like the old canon nikon saga playing out again but this time Sony's acting like canon and Fuji's acting like Nikon!!

I''m very interested in the X-E2. for my kind of photography I think aps-c is ok from the point of view of IQ. My M mount 50mm lens and 75 (CV) could be used as middle tele (I do not use this focal length very much, but sometimes I do). With the 35/1,4 and the 14 from fuji it should be ok. A good digital alternative to my m7 or slr film gear. I'll think about it...

Where? Last I saw it was still way more expensive. Maybe I need to look at eBay instead of B&H...

one sold on fredmiranda for $400 a few days back. I sold my one in early april for $600. They really aren't that expensive, body only. People just fluff up the price with accesories.

Just put the cat amongst the pidgeons, a FF x camera seems unlikely, does the range of lenses out have enough coverage to fill a sensor and still have the good reputation they have now?.
Shoot me down if you like but surely the pixel density and increase in sensitivity and processing behind the sensor will out weigh the need for a "full frame", bare in mind that 35mm frame size was only picked as an arbitrary format due to movie makers and then took a few years before it was taken seriously buy users more use to roll and plate film sizes. Maybe the hunt for a full frame might be eclipsed by a smaller format perfection.

full frame is now "medium format", so in that sense, the slower lenses that sony released are understandable. bringing out lenses with the right balance of size/price/aperture is tough if you're working with legacy lens systems. leica has more leeway, but canikon and sony have to make some compromises. if fuji decided to develop a full frame system, i would expect slower lenses just like sony. the slr form factor may be another corollary of the full frame sensor, though i hope fuji continues to offer a rangefinderesque alternative.

Well said Sir!

Far too much hype made about "so called" FF cameras IMHO, frankly the term FF in itself means absolutely squat anyway as you have explained.

Personally I do not feel that the Fuji X series having an APS-C sensor limits them in any way whatsoever. I'm perfectly happy with the image quality, the bokeh etc, etc. In fact having a 1.5x crop factor improves things at the long end too if using the 55-200mm which for me is a real & usable bonus on such a small and light camera.

Say they do bring out a FF camera and we all then have to buy into new lenses to support that camera. Surely that totally defeats the purpose of going to great lengths to produce a camera system in the first place??? Defies all logic to me.

Anyways, Full Frame is 10x8 not piddly, tiny little 35mm so there! :p

Almost everyone who offers a full frame camera and lenses also offers an APSC with dedicated lenses... why would Fuji be held to a different standard?

Nice upgrade but brings little to nothing to me and my current XE1. Where I'd like better AF is in low light. PDAF isn't going to get me there. Split image focusing, sold or selling all my old manual lenses as the Fuji's are just too good and have AF. Separate AF and AE buttons? I'd love it but buying a new camera just for that, no. As others have said, I'll wait for the xp2, then see.

A big however, its a better camera and its good that Fuji introduced it.

i played with an xe-2 and a 23/1.4 today…

the af was pretty swift…the 23 was felt very solid…a bit wide and big for the xe-1 but i think it would take maybe 30 seconds to get used to them together.

for me, i'm gonna wait to see what the xpro? will look like…i sort of miss the bigger size of the pro at times…not that the xe is losing any appeal for me.
i'm still loving the fuji experience.

XE 2 : am I excited? yes. Not sure when available in Italy, for sure I?ll give a (deep) look at it. But in a short time I'll have to replace my i.mac (7 years old) as well...hmmm, priorities...

I briefly tried the X-E2, and it felt exactly the same as the X-E1. Unfortunately, there was no chance for direct comparison, but I did try the X-E1 about 30 minutes earlier. There are some cosmetic and usability differences, but they are minor. I own neither camera and this is based on perhaps 15 minutes of testing.

A lot of nonsense gets thrown around about incremental updates these days... It's funny, because Fuji claims the worlds fastest AF on the X100s (http://fujifilm-x.com/x100s/en/) ... but in reality, the RX100 II by Sony smokes it in AF speed and Sony doesn't even mention it in its info for the camera. Of course, they are different cameras, so...

Is there a difference in image quality from the sensor?
I am asking this weather I should buy a X-Pro1 now or wait for a x-Pro2...

There have been no improvements on the sensor as far as IQ I believe.

Do you need the X-Pro1 now? The X-Pro2 is definitely coming. Of course it'll be top dollar upon release, so I'd take that into account. That said, I keep happily using the X-Pro1.

"Need" is a big word. Its not what I make a living with.
However I would like to buy a camera this year as a business expense ;-)

Since all mfg.'s have announced their product line for the Holliday season there is little reason to expect any new announcements until later next year....
