Fuji X-Pro1 due on March 20?

It's been available in Japan for a month or so, prices are already starting to edge downward a bit. I have fondled an X-pro several times now at various camera shops, but am having a hard time justifying the purchase of yet another camera. It sure looks pretty though.

I heard from Precision Camera after I emailed today, here's the reply:

"We still haven't received a date but it will hopefully start shipping within the next few weeks. We will let you know once we receive a shipment."

Jeez, a few more weeks.

I don't see why Fuji doesn't go to its largest market. They have cameras sitting on the shelves in Japan and Norway, with sales to be made in the US? Even two months of lag is real money when you consider interest on loans.

Meanwhile Leica is poised to launch a camera soon, and if they announce before Fuji ships, some people may change their minds, cancel their pre-orders and wait for the Leica.

Similar situation to Sony and its NEX-7. I wonder how many sales it lost by the huge delay between announcement(s) and actual delivery?

Tokyo, HK, India, Dubai... is there a pattern here? ...Italy Oslo, London... maybe USA shortly
Ireland, France, Switzerland...
I think Finland was the first in Europe, at least that I noticed.
Going out for the third day with it. Tests have been done now, I hope to bring back something worth of showing.

Yes, it seems that the boat (one boat, multiple boats, I have no clue) is going in sequencial order from East to West. Since Italy and France have them, I would think the cameras will be in the US in about a week.

I guess it´s only one ship. Wouldn´t it make sense to have one sail straight from Japan to the Americas if there were several?

I'm starting to get a bit more pessamistic. I think a ship laden with Fuji gear left Japan in mid-late Feb headed West, but Europe is the end of the line for that ship.

Gear being produced in March and April in Japan is being queued for North America and will head on a ship east to California. That trip is 11 days, plus then transit to various US stores.

On Jan 26, Fuji announced it would be available in Japan on Feb 18th, so that was 3 1/2 weeks notice. The US market hasn't received that announcement. Now add in additional transit time. I think it'll be about 5-6 weeks before we see it in the US.

AND remember, once the cameras hit land they go to Fuji first and then to each camera store... we're probably closer to two weeks depending on where you live and ordered from. 5-6 weeks sounds extremely pesimistic to me.

Haha. Just waiting for my camera like the rest of you...

Maybe if we were all better at math we'd be able to guess arrival time better! I actually think I remember this from my High School ACTs:

"If a boat filled to capacity leaves Japan on x date, stops in country v, unloads 1/5 of it's cargo, stops in countries w, x and y doing the same, how long will it take to reach country z taking into account the diminishing cargo at each stop?"

Okay, so it's March 26. Are we really two days away? I'd love to get it before this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

Crossing my fingers as well. I want to take this little beast into the pits at the Ling beach Grand Prix in a few weeks :)

They MUST be close to you guys by now - if ours came in on Friday March 23rd you guys MUST be getting them this week. I'm only 10 hours by car to NYC so they have to be almost there.

Cheers,
Dave

Don't know about the Unite States, but I can literally walk into a store here in Montréal and buy one (Camtec Photo for those wondering). I would have, but I don't have the money yet.

I said 'end of month' a month ago. It's still 'end of month.' :)

Latest word from the Fuji rep when I asked him last Thursday if deliveries were still scheduled for 'next week' (i.e., this week:)

"everything still on schedule, haven't received allocations but I'm sure my guys will get plenty of product."
