I use a Canon TC-DC58 1.5x tele converter on my Fuji X100. It’s far more compact than the Fuji converter, and can be found used for a tiny fraction of the Fuji price. 1.5x gives 50mm equivalent, and works .. just fine. I doubt the image quality is on a par with a prime lens, but Canon quality is nothing to sneeze at.
Add-on tele converters aren’t really camera-specific... you need one of adequate quality, and which gives sufficient sensor coverage . I tried a few different Canons, and found that converters longer than 1.5x tend to vignette the image. A 2x model gave a round image circle, but then it was likely designed for a smaller sensor size. )

Set to M (manual) focus mode. Touch AFL button to AutoFocusLock on your initial subject. You’re now locked in; shoot at will. Focus won’t change until you touch AFL again or touch the focus ring.

For better or worse, FUJIFILM thinks about AF as always being fully automated. The AFL button works well. However, if you use different X-Series bodies the AFL button is in different places. So you can't develop a single muscle-memory response. Unfortunately, the AFL button haptics are mediocre.
With the newer X-Series bodies and lenses, the AFS mode is quick and accurate . So focus the refocus between shots isn't so bad. For instance face detection, AF-S + Zone or AF-S + Wide Tracking modes minimize the AFS half-press issue.
Believe it or not, using the lens ring fly-by-wire MF with the virtual, electronic, range-finder patch is a flexible, viable option. I often work this way with the X100T and X-Pro 2 with the compact f 2 lens line.
None of this applies to the old X-Series bodies and lenses though. For these the only option is AFL/MF operation.

I will point out that I tried the 21mm (equivalent) conversion lens from my Ricoh GR on my X100S and the results were pretty awful. The Fuji 50 and 28 (equivalent) conversion lenses are very good. Best results obtained by stopping down 3-4 stops but they're still decent at maximum aperture. The biggest drawback is the added bulk, especially the 50mm lens.

Thanks, Dogman. I do need to test the aux lenses for *results*, not just functionality, and I haven't made enough use of the auxiliary lenses. I also have the Canon wide converter (WC-DC58B) (0.75x, 26mm effective) from my long-dead Canon G-7, and THAT is a gloriously huge hunk of glass. And at least it covers the sensor. I need to scrounge an empty 58mm filter casing to mount it.... Hmm.
Its time for some testing.

As you're undoubtedly aware, the bare X100 lens barrel has a /male/ 49mm thread and the lens can focus past its rim. (I don't know if Fuji altered this odd arrangement for later models.) For the X100 you must use the bayonet adapter ring which is internally threaded 49mm through and through, which in addition to the bayonet, (a) presents the more usual female thread at the barrel end, and (b) offers enough extension to protect the lens. To this I add a standard 49->58mm step up ring.
The Canon tele converter TC-DC58 (1.5x) mounts directly to the 58mm step ring without conflict. Using this converter results in ~50mm equivalent focal length.
The Canon wide converter WC-DC58B (0.75x) is also threaded 58mm but the threading is recessed - a flange extends a couple mm and the step ring can't engage the converter lens threads. You need a very deep step ring, which I achieve by mounting a blank 58mm filter ring (glass and retaining ring removed) to the step ring, and the lens to the (deeper) filter ring. Using this converter results in ~27mm equivalent focal length.

Ooooo. Oh my. Just noticed the Canon TC-DC58 tele converter (at least as used on the X100) has rather severe pincushion distortion. And slight vignetting. I withdraw my suggestion and do not recommend it. To be fair, this unit was designed for an early Canon PowerShot (?) model, having a much smaller sensor .. It's not up to X100 standards.
On other hand, I still like the Canon Wide converter WC-DC58B (of Canon G7 vintage). It has no obvious distortion. I've done no pixel peeping, but it appears serviceable. And it's such a massive hunk of glass, 4" diameter, I just can't help loving the bloody thing!!
