Fuji x100 - to buy now or wait for X200

Wasn't it Panasonic who let the Digilux die?

Actually I don't know who made that awful decision. I always speculated that it was Leica because they make their cash selling lenses and that design did not make people buy more lenses. ? ? ? Which is why they went to the D3 concept ( now THERE was a failure !) . . . . I know . . . my mind wanders . . . .

PS: . . . but just look at your picture there . . . is that not a beauty ! ?

Buy now. If you wait you might find yourself waiting for the X300 instead of X200. With the recent coming of the new series Fuji's I don't really see an X200 in the future, but I'm known to be wrong.:)

Haha, Dave... I remember wanting one badly when I first saw it, but deemed it too expensive. Then by the time I saw it again, it was discontinued and was still selling for a lot.

Yeh, I bought mine (2004?) at a career high in cash flow (inward !).

In my mind, I connect the HexarAF, the Digilux-2 and the X100 (which we all know needs some evolution, but then what doesn't?).

Slight off topic but I am waiting for the X-Pro II instead of the X-E1. Because theHybrid OVW is important to me and they can further perfect the OVW on the XP1 as well as the AF and manual focus, not to mention adding a diopter....

Busines first, photography second?

Please don't be daft.

The X-E1 is the most capable camera of its size that I have ever used, irrespective of price. It's small, light, fast in operation, competitively priced, has terrific ergonomics, and produces amazing image quality up to ISO 3200.

We may safely assume that the X-200 will incorporate the advances embodied therein, and perhaps add a bit.

A Fuji rep told me two weeks ago to expect the X-200 at CES in early January.

Fuji is having a major "press" event on Jan 7, 2013 at CES...they are talking about several new products so wait 10 min and the curtain will be lifted. Then you can start this process all over again.....then it will be more about the cost of "New Stuff".

And a Christmas delivery date.

X100's will still be findable once the X200 is out. And a Fuji rep told me with apparent certainty to expect the X200 at CES in January. I would predict a similar form factor with faster AF, an XTRANS sensor, and a $1000 price point.

My bad. I thought I was talking to photographers. I didn't realize this was the economic viability forum.

We are just being realistic. Fujifilm is a corporation. They design nice cameras, but they are not doing so because they are into photography more than making money. If they don't make any money selling cameras, they will no longer sell cameras. It's not a labor of love.

There is no perfect camera... you can only use what is offered. For many of us, the Fuji is the best ratio of price / performance / ergonomics in a modern digital camera. Believe me, we all would like them to make a better camera. However, nobody gets it completely right ever in digital camera manufactuering.
