Fujifilm X-Pro3 Thoughts?

With my Leica I need to save the settings to card before I update the firmware, otherwise I lose all the presets etc

Way fewer buttons is a complete win in my eyes. What I absolutely hate about the XPro2 is hitting some unknown button when picking up the camera and getting to spend five minutes figuring out how to undo what that unknown button did. Has been happening less over the years, but is still a very over-buttoned and dialed camera for my taste. Yes, I am an idiot when I use such a “feature”-filled camera.

Bob,

Same problem with me with the X-Pro2… for a while.

If you don’t use the function buttons, press the Menu button for a couple of seconds and it will lock them (a lock icon will show yellow in the viewfinder). Press The Menu button for a couple of seconds to unlock.

Thank you Brian!!!

After a couple of inadvertent screwups with function buttons I went into the menu and disabled all of them one-by-one. I also turned off the touch-function gestures (screen swiping) as well as the touch screen itself. I later decided that I wanted one function button for changing film simulations so I assigned the button in the center of the EVF/OVF selector for that because I figured it’s the least likely to press accidentally. I do use the front command dial for changing the ISO.

The owner’s manual is your friend.

All the best,
Mike

i'm still annoyed that mine had no manual or charger included...

Que? Watchoo mean no charger? And no manual? Did you buy it new?
Every digicam I've bought came w a charger from a lowly Olympus C8008 to Canon S95, to D750, M-E, M240, D850, Z7, Pen-F, OMD EM10 Mk11...

My Ricoh GR3 didn't come with a charger either. You can charge in camera if you plug in the USB-C cable, but that makes it harder to charge your spare batteries. Separate charger is extra $.

Well, let’s be fair... they include a way to charge the batteries, just not the type you wanted.

canadian fuji users got a shorter shaft...no charger...no printed manual...
i bought a charger that charges 2 batteries at once and it included 2 new no name 126s batteries...all for 45 bucks usd.

The major criticism of mine about the X-Pro3 is that a battery charger is now not supplied with the camera.

Actually, I applaud the new in-camera charger facility on the ‘3’ as it means carrying just a USB-C lead and coming across an available USB socket say, on public transport etc (many buses and trains in London have USB points), I can top up the battery.

Nevertheless of course, there are two disadvantages in not having a separate battery charger:
1 I can’t use the camera while it is charging the battery.
2 If I do want to charge the battery and use the camera, I have to shell out for a separate charger.

I carry two extra batteries with me walking around for day shooting when on holiday. There have been times abroad I have got through two or three batteries over a period of days and have been unable to charge them overnight as I’ve been travelling off-grid. In this situation when, eventually, I do find a power point my chargerless camera, as supplied by Fuji, will be tied up charging umpteen batteries.

The X-Pro3 is marketed by Fuji as a professional grade camera, built for professional use. In my book deciding not to supply a charger with one of their flagship models is pretty tardy and penny-pinching and takes the gloss off an otherwise excellent camera.

When I bought my Voigtlander Bessa R2A it came with LR44 batteries, but they didn’t last forever! Damnit, what a drag! No charger included either. Sucks!

Just having a little fun. :)

All the best,
Mike

But there is a charger... it charges the battery. It`s just not an external one.

You need a backup battery anyway, so buy one with a separate charger... it`s not that expensive.

I can agree with that. I have other Fuji cameras, so I have too many chargers...

Okay. For the avoidance I doubt, I should have written ‘a separate battery charger’. Does this now help you understand my point about not being able to use the camera while it’s charging a battery?

Well no, actually I don’t need another backup battery. I already own two. Fuji’s battery charger in the UK is £59 (£45 discounted). Yes, cheaper chargers are available but I don’t buy cheap aftermarket and often crap electronics - too many bad experiences.

Ok man... I just charge my batteries when I’m not shooting, but I understand people have different needs. Sorry to have boiled your blood...

I wish my X-Pro 1 had USB charging!

Did the X100T ship with a charger? It was the first X to have USB charging, I think.
