There's an interview with a Fuji manager who says the x-pro1 remains the companies flagship, and they won't replace it until they have made significant advances in image quality or some area of function...

I'd say the x-pro1 will almost certainly be replaced this year sometime. Maybe towards the end.

I'm definitely not complaining personally - the product has had a pretty long life for a sub 2k camera!

Yeah, I saw that. However, it isn't their flagship model in specs anymore. I tend to think that they may be trying to figure out if the X-T1 is the better route to go. The X-Pro1 is popular with you and I, but not overall compared to the X-E1/X-E2.

I'm just not so sure... I hope so, but I won't hold my breath. All of their other cameras are on a 1-2 year refresh. The X-Pro1 is almost at 2 years and will go over based on that interview.
 
So what if it's unpopular... Fuji has a long history of making awesome, special, unpopular cameras. Honestly, how many Natura, Klasse, Instax, GX680, GW690, GA645, GF670W, TX1 have you seen out in the wild?

Unpopular never really stopped fuji, it's their specialty 🙂
 
I hope you are right Spyro. I'm playing Devil's advocate just because I don't want to get my hopes up.

To me, the X-Pro1 has been one of the most useful cameras for me... up there with the M6, M9, and Contax G as cameras that have been really comfortable for me to use.

that may have been YOUR experience…
BUT around here…
i had conversations with local camera store sales people and customers and the major complaint was size!
these were folks who were looking for an alternative to the m4/3, wanting a bit more quality but at the same size camera bodies.
 
Thats strange it seems the perfect size for me. I sure hope we see an Xpro-2 organic FF sensor someday. I know…I know... not happening. But lets think positive. 😉

Thats what I hear from a Photographer who is linked to Fuji too:

X-T1 in februar (SLR typ sealed body, 16mp, rotating screen, quick signal path)

X-P2 on Photokina (same body as X-P1, minimum 24mp, brandnew sensor design)

Golden times for us! 🙂
 
Maybe it's always been this way, but why do people want a new camera with minor, evolutionary changes, every year? People quote "specs" and such, and play right into the consumerism that runs the world's economies. Moore's Law is great and all, but it implies you have to stay on the buying train with computers, each year getting the slightly faster one, with slightly more memory and hard drives. The same with digital cameras for 20 years. "Buy, buy, buy, mine is 8MP, mine is 12MP, the new one is BLACK! The newer one is GREY! The newer one has "Organic Sensor!" The new one looks retro!

Our fathers and grandfathers didn't buy 5 cameras, and get a new one every few months, and spend hours on forums discussing every little problem or niggle of every design, even the ones they didn't buy. They bought a Canon P or Leica IIIC or Argus in 1950, and kept it until they died. Today, tomorrow, and probably for years ahead I'm going to shoot my "OLD" XE-1!

am pretty sure there were many gear heads among our grandfather generation. and happy snappers today never bother read camera forums, and use their digital rebel from 2007 😱

Who said anything about every year? This is a brand new design.

As much as I dislike a sudo dslr design, it may sell. I just returned from 3 weeks in the Far East. If I broke down all the cameras I saw by form factor, I'd say 75% dslr, 20% phones/tablets and 5% everything else. If you want to play the game, you need to appeal to that 75%.

And its hardly a particularly knowledgeable group. Of many 100's of dslr shooters I observed, I don't recall thinking any of them looked like they were photographers. They wanted a camera, everyone buys dslr's, they buy dslr's.

If the dealers can make a decent margin kitting the body with the 18-55, they will move them. The issue may be it will not say Nikon or Canon on it. This may be di rigor.

So long as they sell more cameras of all types. The better all the way around, then there is hope that a next gen xe3 or xp2 will be sure to come as well as more lenses.

Looks like they are also confirming January 28 as the announcement date.

It's a good looking camera and the top plate seems a rational layout. I think it has a lot more in common with a 90s Contax SLR than a Fujica ST considering the dials and hump shape (even the diopter position).

If I were in the market for a camera I think I'd still go for the x-e1 or x-e2 since I'm not such a big fan of the central hump, but I hope Fuji does well on this one.
