Funky lens on R-D1

This Funky lens started life in a APS Fuji Q1, it's a 22mm fixed f8 on the APS so I think this works out to 27mm on a 35mm camera. I bought a aluminum M39 body cap to mount the lens in. The advantage of the screw mount cap is you can fine tune the focus. I have it set to the hyperfocal distance so it's good from around 4' to infinite. Obvious vignetting and it's a good thing as the center is usably sharp but the edges are soft. This will be fun to play with and it gives me a wide lens on my Rd1.

Kinda odd there should be significant corner softness or darkening, as the R-D1 sensor is not far different in size from the APS film...

The lens is recessed back in the body cap so this may be the cause of the vignetting? I don't think I want to change it, I like the look.

No, it isn't. But film is more "forgiving" for oblique rays that reach the corners. The CCD "cells" that collect ilght are perpendicular to the CCD surface and receive a lot less light when rays are not at 90 degrees. That's why the micro-lenses over the CCD cells on the Leica M8 are a bit "shifted" regarding the vertical of the cell, in order to collect more light. This shift increases from center to the corners.
