What is surprising about an insular community protecting ‘it’s own’?

No controversy, unless you are not part of the insular community.

Simple solution: the insular community should not hire outsiders to save money. Keep it all within the family.

Yeah, it started in the 70's and continues with what seems to be an unstoppable level of energy. Engineers stopped being promoted to become CEOs, bean-counters have taken the chair and as long as they keep improving returns will never be asked to give it up.

Still a few good companies I guess, seen a lot of the same folks at the local Costco for the last 20 years. Have known a couple that have retired. When you see that low of turnover you know it’s a good company and has weathered a couple of economic downturns just fine.
As far as retirement I have a very smart wife. In the 2008 crash she was watching my 401 lose $500 a day so with a few minutes on the computer shoved the whole amount into interest income, true, at only 1/2% interest not much gain but the bleeding stopped and later we moved back to mutuals and some stocks.

So, are you saying that I'm an anti-semite? Really, just be straight with us. I have no issues with anyone's faith as long as they don't proselytize or hurt others in the name of or by convenience for their religion. But I call out abuse of power when I see it, regardless who is in power. This is when you bring up "well, so and so on this other side did something completely unrelated to this posting but I'm going to reply anyway because that's how I learned to debate, via logical fallacy." Bringing up the demonstrations within the context of this thread is a red herring, plain and simple.

When I first went to B&H in the 90s, when it was on 17th St (near Adorama), this was seemingly how it was. The move to the 34th and 9th location seemed to open up the need to hire outside of their community. The difference in size between those two stores and the products they offer is stark.

After reading the New York Post article, I am under the impression that NY Dan is seeking publicity for the complaint he filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging that "B&H discriminates against non-Hasidic employees". I would be wrong, of course, if NY Dan is not the 'Dan Wagner' as mentioned in the article. Let's not jump to conclusions, and allow the EEOC to decide on the complaint. Cheers, OtL

What is interesting in the article is calling people ultra-right. Ignorant at least. Anyone who respect multiculturalism does not only declares it, but knew about cultures.
Calling people working at B&H as ultra is totally ignorant. At least.
In religion mentioned in the article and which NY_Dan has quoted here, ultra religious males are not working. Only females do.

Where are similar allegations against B&H seen on photo forums for sometime now. Often with reaction - I will never buy from B&H because they treat non-Jewish workers badly.
Is here any statistics how much of those allegations were proved?
If most, NYC authorities should intervene. If not so many were proved, I'm not sure what it is all about.

Ignorant is a strong word. While I agree that many people may not have the understanding of both sides of the situation I would present to you the fact that some people here do.

Bad is a term that varies from person to person. Some people may find one action perfectly reasonable, while others might be willing to cry foul.

I would submit that there are some of us who do know a bit more about this than you do and feel comfortable calling injustices out.

Following the Maccabees to an extreme has natural consequences. This is but an example of one. Jew on Jew hate, Black on Black crime, acceptance of our differences and focusing on what we have in common will help us rise up. Sitting in judgement on people is best left to higher more perfect authorities.
