 I plonked down some money for a G2 and couple of lenses
i didnt buy gears for 4 mths and oh... i couldnt resist.
it came yesterday and it feels really nice. i actually like the autofocus mode alot (perhaps its because i come from the slr side of things)
fun times. cant wait to use it this weekend :):)

Please, tell us (me) how it goes. It may be dreadful, but its (unfortunately) true. While I hope all goes well for you, I also hope (for me) that you write something saying the G system is cr*p. That may help control my serious G-GAS. But who am I kidding, really...

Good luck. Do you got the 21 mm? It is admirable lens with amazing vf. Gorgeous thing. Post the images as soon as possible

Shoot some slides - even if you have never shot slides - you will be amazed. The Zeiss lenses are unbelievably good. I have the G2 and a Bessa R2A - the Bessa gets way more use because I like the controls and the manual aspect, but every time I look at the pictures from the G2, I remember why I can't get myself to selling it.

It really is a point & shoot camera once you figured out the autofocus pitfalls. Make sure you always confirm the autofocus in your viewfinder!

I lust for the 21 Biogon, but I can't justify it - I just don't use the camera often enough and I just ordered and am waiting for my CV 21mm lens.

Congratulations on getting the perfect camera. Btw, I second the slide suggestion, especially if you try the KODACHROME 64 (200) - the results will amaze you. Happy G2-shooting!

The G2 autofocus leaves something to be desired. It likes to resolve straight lines regardless of where they are. In film cameras, my Leica CM is much better at this. Will try to post an example. Anyway, if you learn to live with this limitation, you'll get some great images.

The autofocus area is indicated in the viewfinder near the center with a couple of marks. Point the camera at the subject, lock the focus, then compose and fire the shutter.
I sometimes expect autofocus cameras to read my mind and focus on what I was thinking of, not what I was pointing the indicated autofocus area onto.

I have 2 G2's a 21mmm,28,45,90. The Camera as a box work well. The exposure and electronics are great ,the focus is a little noisy but accurate. I Bought the Camera for the quality of the lenses and the size. The lenses are as good or better than any other lens made, no compromise in the len quality at all. I also have a IIIa ,with its lenses as well. I am a sharpness and quality nut and the Contax lenses have never let me down.

Mark! All I can say is, FOUR MONTHS WITHOUT A GAS ATTACK??!!

I'm thinking that's an RFF record!

Heck, you deserve that kit as a reward!

i sometimes shoot slides on my r3a..
i really like the af feature...seems to take away the pain of taking photos.
interestingly
looking back, i moved from the R to the R3A because i wanted to speed up taking photos and not have to fiddle with the speed dial.. AE was good

now i am trying the AF feature in the G2 .hahah :)
whats next? move full circle back to the slr?
i sometimes find my dslr too bulky and too obtrusive.
blah

i wonder if i can figure out the pitfalls myself..

well
coz i suffered for 8 mths before that with severe GAS attack for the canon pro lenses.. argh
it killed me...

one way to stay away from GAS is really, to spend less time on the forums (especially Fredmiranda).
boy.. i havent been there for 4months now..

I have GAS too. In the last two weeks, after I swore off 35mm film equipment, I'm the owner of a Contax IIIa , Contax T3, and now I'm seriously thinking of a Contax 645. Or a G2 ? HELP!!

The G2 is a great system, and the lenses are incredible. I actually bought the 21/2.8 as the basis for the system, the best fast 21 at reasonable price I could find. Then I bought an inexpensive G1 to put it on. That had transport trouble so went back to KEH and I exchanged it for a G2. Happy choice!

Hope you enjoy your G2. I don't think you'll find anyone here who doesn't rate the lens quality highly. Many lenses these days are capable of good results, it's the camera bodies that need getting used to. Never had chance to try the 21mm and now probably never will as I sold my G2 last week.
My GAS problem has been of the digital variety lately having bought a Canon G7 and only a few weeks back, a Nikon D80. Still trying to master them both.
But for a lightweight, compact sytem with super quality results the G-series take some beating. Enjoy!

Well, things just changed there a bit. To post to the B&S forum you now have to pay for an image upload or B&S subscription. Details:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/imageupload

IMO, it's a fair way to approach the issue and provide income to offset the costs of running the site.

May make that forum less of a free-for-all -- literally! :D
