mark, i think u've lost the plot mate.... but good luck on the purchase. I had a contax G system once (G1, G2, 21mm, 28mm, 45mm, 90mm) and it was a hard decision to decide whether to stick to it or my leicas. I gave up the G because the viewfinder is squinty, there's no way of confirming what u're focussed on (esp on the 90mm for portraits), and the AF was really loud. comparable to a non-USM lens at times.

Uggg. Evil GAS! I just succumbed, buying a black G2 outfit (with 45, 28 & 90) on flea-bay in what looks like a decent deal. Like I haven't already spent too much on film RF gear already. This is the first time (aside from FSU gear, which needs no excuse) that I've bought something not for practical use but just because I want to see what its like to use and the differences from my other gear. Here's hoping those lenses are all they're said to be!

i didnt buy gears for 4 mths and oh... i couldnt resist.
it came yesterday and it feels really nice. i actually like the autofocus mode alot (perhaps its because i come from the slr side of things)
fun times. cant wait to use it this weekend![]()
Hey, congratulations! I love the G2, added the 21 a few weeks ago and love the results.
The autofocus really works for me - it's what I'm used to from the slr world and speeds up my work no end. I've never had any focus issues - except once when trying to photograph fish behind glass.
The G2 sparked my resurgence in using film and am currently shooting a mix of Ilford b&w and color neg and have learned to develop C41 as well...
Enjoy the G2

Hi David
How much does the 21mm cost these days? about low 500 USD?
i am curious,
when the 21mm lens is on, and one looks through the G2's viewfinder, what is the field of vision to be seen through the G2's view finder? (eg the 45 gives the 45 look and the 90 gives the 90 look but the 21 has its own external viewfinder... so i was wondering what it would show through the G2 viewfinder)
Depends on condition... Take a look at KEH.com for some reasonable prices... I see right now they have one EX+ for $449 but without the (expensive) finder, and another LN- (with finder) for $725... A couple years ago I paid $465 for mine in BGN condition with finder without caps. Seems to me EX at that time was just over $600 with finder.haagen_dazs said:How much does the 21mm cost these days? about low 500 USD?
The body's finder shows the 28mm view.haagen_dazs said:...when the 21mm lens is on, and one looks through the G2's viewfinder, what is the field of vision to be seen through the G2's view finder?

thanks Doug.
I wonder what the view is like with the 16mm hologon.. probably defaults to a 28mm G2 viewfinder view...
Anyone here owns that super wide 16mm lens?

Doug's answered this...but for the UK, prices are around 400UKP at a dealers and around 300 on ebay etc. Mine cost a shade over 300 in superb condition with the finder, boxed with all the papers...
As usual with a new lens, I use it exclusively for a few weeks to really get a feel for it then it just goes in the bag until required. Thinking of selling the 28mm now...I don't use wides a lot but figure that if going to shoot wide then I'll make it wiiiiide...
cheers

Mike Richards said:The G2 autofocus leaves something to be desired. It likes to resolve straight lines regardless of where they are. In film cameras, my Leica CM is much better at this. Will try to post an example. Anyway, if you learn to live with this limitation, you'll get some great images.

Maybe you had it on continious focus and didn't know it. I've done that.
