BTW, that taped interview is a true look at Garry and captures some of the idiosyncrasies that made him such a captivating personality. It also has some great scenes of him photographing on the street.

That last photo of Garry is my favorite one. The lighting in the classroom was 1/60 at f4 w TriX. And Garry RARELY was still enough to get sharp shots. However, I snapped that last shot just as he turned and despite the blur, it has always been my favorite of him. He was a "blur" to a lot of students (me included) until his message finally sunk in.

The download worked for me in explorer as opposed to Safari where it didnt work before.

Thanks for the comments on the forum and quite a few emails sent from my Web site about the Winogrand article. I am humbled by the compliments and a bit surprised at the number of readers. I guess ALL "rangefinder" photographers can appreciate Garry's talent 🙂
To answer a few questions sent last night via email:
1. The B&W negs were scanned via a Nikon Coolscan IV a friend of mine has loaned me. It's a great little scanner but the digital ice does not work well on the b&w negs. I can say this, "spotting" those negatives in CS3 after 35 years in storage was a nightmare as there were fungus and spots all over them.
2. Yes I have two books autographed by Garry. The Animals (still my favorite book of his) and Women are Beautiful (my least favorite). I also have Public Relations but I never got him to autograph it before he moved to California. Anyone who wants these books in exchange for a new M8 or a new EWATE please contact me 😀
3. No I have not heard from any of the "TAs" noted in the article. Wish they would because they would have a completely different take on what life was like with Garry as a boss. As I said in the story, I never got to know any of them and I really regret that now. I hope some of them are really carrying on with the street photography Garry enjoyed.
4. No I never made a dime off of or sold a single street photograph. As my web site indicates, after graduating in 1976 (actually I worked full time for a year to pay off a student loan before beginning my freelancing) I was fortunate to get some "pj" assignments and those lead to better and bigger jobs. When some of my work took me to New York in the 80s, I did some street work but never did anything with them (until I posted a few on my Web site a few months ago).
