gf1 as back up to g1?

I have both G1 and GF1. The way I use them, I leave the 20mm on the GF1 and use the G1 as the interchangeable lens system (I have the 14-45 and 45-200 and other M-mount lenses). So when I want to go light, it's just the GF1/20. If I want some flexibility, I'll take the G1 with a couple of lenses. When I feel really strong, I'll take out the Canon 20D!:)

I have both, but I tend to use the GF1 with the 14-45mm lens and EVF, and the G1 with the 45-200mm lens. I also have the 20mm f/1.7 lens, which I use on whichever camera takes my fancy when I'm photographing in low light or want a shallow depth of field.

i was thinking about the gf1 with the 20 attached and the g1 with 14-45 most of the time. i rarely use the 45-200.

If you're just looking for a backup, get another used G1 body cheap! Only get the GF1 if you need something pocketable, or want to take videos. The GF1 and 20mm is my grab-and-go camera now--I use the G1 more for nerding out with adapters and the like.

I keep thinking about doing the same thing as I currently have the G1 + 14-45 and a few neat manual legacy lenses.

After going to B&H and comparing the G1 and GF1, I pulled back a bit as the size difference (especially with the 20mm pancake) is not overwhelming and I really like using the EVF on the g1. I was pretty surprised by this. So I just popped for the 20mm alone. It was just hard to justify the $900 for the GF1 + 20mm if I didn't care about video.

I really agree with mabelsound, if you don't need or want video it is hard to beat a cheap G1 body as a second. Actually the current prices on the G1 kit are stellar for what you get...

Joe, I have a new in box GF1 body...I can slap a priority mail airbill on it with your name filled in....hehe

Not a bad spot to be in.

I really like the blend/mix/duality of a combo RF (or Viewfinder) and SLR system. I think the idea of putting a prime on the VF camera and the zoom on the EVF is a great idea. While not in the same league as yours I have a GRD III with a 28 Brightline on her and a GX100 today with a 75 brightline thinking about a EVF.

Go for it dude! Life is short!
