Dear all,
I'm rediscovering photography after becoming intrigued by 70s rangefinders. Managed to get a great ql17 giii on ebay that seems to work well. I've not put a film through it as the light seals need replaced and i'm waiting for the kit to arrive. I'm sure i'll not have too many problems with this job.
However, there are a couple of other issues that I wanted some advice on. First, there are a few particles between the lens elements that i'd like to clean out. Second, I noticed that the aperture seems to stop down slightly more in auto at f8-f11 (as indicated by the needle in the viewfinder) compared to when it is stopped down manually to these settings. Also, there is very little movement of the aperture blades when opening from f16 to f11 manually (like there's some slack in the mechanism). In auto, pressing the shutter release moves the blades to the point of releasing the shutter, but then on release of the shutter they stop down a little more.
I'm guessing the blades might just need a little clean (and I've found advice on other threads for this - thanks) but I couldn't find any step by step advice on removing the lens assembly to get to the blades. Removing the lens elements will also let me have a clean around in there. I've downloaded the useful repair manual with exploded views but could do with being talked through the process a bit.
Any help or direction to relevant threads would be great!
Thanks all,
Ewan (Manchester, UK)
