Have you ever ordered something from B&H Photo and forgot about until three weeks later? Well, I did. On Feb. 7, I ordered some Ilfotek DD-x developer as I was happy to know about it from Bob (sepiareverb), he has great results using it with HP5+. I thought about it yesterday and contacted B&H about my order, which I had already paid for, and was informed they were out of stock and so was Ilford. ??? I immediately realized this was going nowhere and they never told me the order was delayed indefinitely. They stated that they have no idea when they will have DD-x in stock again.

So... I checked Adorama. In stock! I ordered it and it will be delivered tomorrow! It is currently in Knoxville, Tennessee headed to Atlanta.

We have been notified all along the way, and I could not ask for more.

Thank you, Adorama.:)

B&H communications has been lax of late..to be sure..
But Adorama..well...they have other issues..

Yeah, don't they all?:)

I hope giving them a bit of good feedback will reap benefits in the future. Having been out of the rat race for so long, I feel like I am living the lyrics by John Lennon in "Watching the Wheels"!:p

In my experience Freestyle provides very accurate stock status on their items.
I order all my chemicals and most of my film from them now.

Yeah, they have never disappointed me in the past.

I will be ordering the HP5+ Bulk film from them in May....
Can't wait!:)

Thanks so much for the shout out - very much appreciated!

Adorama has traditionally been the master of the bait and wait in my experience, and I recently had a horrendous experience with their buying department. Since the apparently pointless “we don’t ship chemistry” fiasco at B&H I am always satisfied there.

I'm so very sorry to read that this was your experience with the Trades Department.
Do you have a moment to email me: Helen@adorama.com with more details? I'd welcome the opportunity to make this right, if I'm able.

I'm not sure if Adorama is being given credit of having an item in stock or fulfilling an order. In either case, it seems like a low threshold for praise.

Considering my problems ___(?) weeks ago, it is a huge improvement! Positive feedback is always good! There is too much negativity on this forum.

Thank you for your order and this feedback. We regret your dissatisfaction. Ilford ILFOTEC DD-X Developer is on our site here, where we advise it is back ordered. No ETA is provided because we do not have one we consider reliable. At the time your order was placed we said it would be not less than 7-14 business days.

We normally update customers with backordered items via email every 3-4 weeks. We received your order the first week of Feb so you were due for an email update when you contacted us and cancelled the order.

I am sorry we could not supply this product and glad to know you were able to source it elsehwere.

Hi, Henry,

Yes it is now back-ordered but it was a 4-6 day wait when I ordered. No problem.
It goes without saying, thanks again! B&H has always been extremely helpful.
No problem with me! I have a substantial order (for me) to make that I need to discuss with someone there. But I understand I missed the store hours, so I will wait until Monday.:)

B&H is great!

Thanks,

On my experience, Adorama has always gave me a very good customer support. Most of the time I order using their ebay store. Once, I made a mistake on one of my orders and was answered right away using ebay communication.

I know YMMV but on my part, keep doing a good work Adorama :)

Helen, thanks for keeping an eye on forum.

Regards

Marcelo

But Adorama..well...they have other issues..

The last time I did business with Adorama was in the 80s. I ordered 3 Nikon F3HP bodies and 2 MD 4 motor drives from them. What I ordered were Nikon USA products with the US warranty included. When speaking to NPS about my order, they told me that no F3s had reached the US market yet. They asked that I bring in my cameras and Adorama paperwork as soon as the cameras arrived.

I took all the gear to the Nikon office the day the shipment arrived. Nikon ran all the SN and told me the gear was all gray market and that the warranty cards were not legitimate. I paid about $1500 over gray market pricing for this equipment. Nikon took possession of the equipment and paperwork and replaced my Adorama order with USA warranted products in a couple of weeks. This was all done as I was an NPS member.

I was told that their infractions were so bad that they were in danger of loosing their Nikon contract.

Pretty shady folks I think. I haven't done business with them since.

I think a bigger problem is what is going on with Ilford. Items like direct positive paper are perpetually backordered.

If we can keep things on a positive note in line with the OT, we might discover that there is not only a lot of good things out there in our ever-changing photo world but we may find that these around us will be inspired and we may reap more than ever some of the good things we desire.

Henry and Helen are two of those positives that we can be thankful or and their participation here is both welcome and positive. At the very least, we have been shown that they care. Maybe we could have representation from the film companies!

It seems to me that our love of older and vintage gear depends on the availability of the four-letter f-word: FILM, otherwise this forum is a gear collector's haven, only. I love the older gear... not for nostalgic reasons but for that quality experience of shooting the gear and enjoying the results in print or simply electronically.

Sure, there are problems with all commercial companies. They are run by humans, serving humans. It is all imperfect and I get frustrated too. But, we have it pretty good, I think... ten years ago, here on this forum, there were threads where one could not imagine there would be any film at all to use in the near future. That near future passed.

It is a fragile market though... we must be diligent and careful with it. And most of all, our little community must handle it with care.

For me, all I can do is give credit where credit is due. And, I can be thankful for this forum and every RFF member on this forum.

That is the reason for the original topic anyway. :)

Thank you. Very gracious of you to say this.
