Hello, I have a GA645 in like new condition, which I love, but I have the desire for the larger negative of the GL690. Plus, I now have my darkroom set up and can process and print my on my own. Is it a fair trade to offer the GA645 for a GL690 + 100/3.5 lens? If so that is what I will do. If I could find this camera with an 100/3.5 AE I would gladly make up any value difference in cash. With so much gas occuring here I figure someone has made a similar deal at some point in time.
Thanks for your time.... 9fingers

GL690 for a GA645 at what risk level???????
GL690 for a GA645 at what risk level???????
I guess I fully understand your wish for a larger negative.
Lowest risk: As a fall back option I'd contact www.keh.com and ask. Recently they did offer a significant discount on articles bought if it is the first time you are selling a camera via KEH. I guess it was up to 20 per cent (I dont remember exactly). Given the high demand they try to attract new sources.
High risk for the gamblers: On the other hand I warn you from buying from novice sellers at ebay. Recently I whitnessed several 0 or 1 sellers putting up the GL with AE 100 lens. (eg. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl.../search.dll?from=R40&satitle=7622354189&fvi=1). And every week I receive an email offering quantity discounts if I buy 2 or more brand new (!) GL690. Criminals know how greedy most of us are for the gadget.
Dare to ask the ebay seller who has put up the most GL690s during the past 3 years. Right now he has the AE 100 up for auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl.../search.dll?from=R40&satitle=7624480835&fvi=1
He might take your camera.
This all does not answer your question whether it is a fair deal. I guess it is rather a question of functions needed in the field (photographer's life cycle or project assignment).

I'm enormously fond of my 690 series rangefinders, but every component of the kit required some sort of servicing not long after I received it (mostly shutter cleaning, but the film advance on the GL690 was causing overlapping frames, the GM670's shutter release locked in the middle of a day's shooting once which had to get fixed, and the 100mm AE lens developed an electrical short); this is fairly typical for 30 year old cameras but still annoyed me. However I consider it to have been totally worthwhile now. This is something you ought to take into consideration.
