OK decided to go for either a M5 or M4P to take over from the CL as my main unit. The only thing now which glass do I get to compliment it? The CL has a 40mm cron on it just now and I'd like either a 35 or 50 but am also open to suggestions.

Other than more Leica glass (maybe a bit out of price ransge at the moment due to splurging on body) what/who would you recommend (I saw a couple of CV lenses) or could I fit a LTM lens to an M body (if so any drawbacks?)

Hi mark thanks for the quick reply but I was looking to keep the 40 on the CL and pick up another lens for the M*. Although I'll have a look at that p'net article later (it's on the denied list here at work due sex/nudity, never knew they could detect camera porn with symantec).

It's amazing what firewalls will block, but pnet does have more than its fair share of nudes, doesn't it. CV lenses I've used are the 35 Ultron, 35 Skopar PII, 50 Nokton and 50 Color-Skopar. They have all been excellent lenses with the Skopars having a more "Leicaesque" build quality. They are usually available used at reasonable prices but you have to be quick. My gallery contains examples shot with all four. You will need an adapter with most CV lenses.

If you like the view of the 40, the CV 40 1.4 is one to consider too. On the contrasty side if you like that. I have the MC and I use it primarily in low/existing light. I don't see as much difference in pics of SC and MC as some others do, but you have that option too.

My tuppence worth. I finally acquired a Leica body and lens earlier this year. The M5 and a 60s vintage DR Summicron. A match made in heaven to be sure. Why did I wait an eon to do this? 🙂

Good luck!

You have a 40mm, if you like a little wider view I would look at a 28mm which is a good compliment to 40mm. The field of view of the 40 is really close to 35, closer than it is to 50mm by a few mm.

If price is the factor you can get the Voigtlander 28/3.5 is 285.00, add in a LTM adapter for 55.00 and there you go.

For a few buck more you can get the Voigtlander 28/1.9 ( 444.00 ) and it's a pretty awesome lens, I use one on my M4-P all the time.

On the other hand 50's are really undervalued these days, you can pick up a collapsible 50 summicron pretty cheap these days, here are some completed auctions:

of course look for haze and cleaning marks.

my 2 cents
good luck,

If you go with the M4-p, a 28 has the built in frame lines, very handy. While I love the 25mm CV, built in viewfinder trumps it. Plus you have a great choice in speed in the CV line.

I use a 40/1.4 as my main lens then jump to a 105/2.5 on the high side and a 15/4.5 on the low side. I have a 25/4 that will be siting on a T as a backup second body. I like the 2.6 multiple for jumping lenses as I can often move closer or a bit further back for most of what I shoot these days.

I think the 50 is just too close to the 40.
