Going full service w/ Tony Rose - ordered a new MP!

Congats on your camera!!! I Have an M3 and Love it, but I would love to have an MP. Never let anyone you tell you, you how should spend your money you make...Enjoy that camera! drive it like a rental car!!!!

I've received three MP's from Tony, 2 ala carte and a black paint. Also bought several new lenses from him. He's a great guy. Best thing, if you live in LA you can just drive over there and play with all the toys.... He let me take a chrome MP home for a week when it first came out; great dude.

I know the forum you're talking about, but I never visit it. Why would this sort of announcement be met with sarcasm and insults?

I can't believe it's really about Leicas or photography, that has to be just a pretext, like the "topics" on Jerry Springer, for people who need to abuse others. But you also have to have an atmosphere tolerant (and therefore tacitly encouraging) of uninhibited socially-unacceptible behavior in order for it to proliferate.

Hey Everyone -

Thanks again for all the replies: the support, congrats, and well wishes! The next item to purchase, as if I'm not hemorrhaging money already, is a decent film scanner - that, along w/ the Leica gear, should thoroughly complete and consummate my committment to film.

Joe - you are indeed right - we are emotional beings as well as intellectual ones. I think as camera users/owners we get very wrapped up in the technical aspects of the gear, but we also have emotional connections to it as well. Photography, however technical, is, after all, an art form.

Jorge - thanks for the recommendation on the 90 - impressive results. However, at least in the short to mid term, I suspect I'll be going wider before I go long. BTW, Tony is a big fan of yours.

Thanks again, everyone!
best,
-Mark

Yes, Ben - astute observations. But I didn't really want to get into the whole forum comparison thing...... although I do agree w/ you. RFF feels like home, but I think we all like to visit other spots.

Yes indeed, I visit a number of Leica-related and photography-related sites, just one in particular that I will not. My experience went beyond harmless flaming. I'm not at liberty to discuss the particulars as there's still an ongoing investigation. Once again, congratulations and enjoy your new camera.

You guys are killing me. Digital only for the last 5 years until I dug out my Canon F1 and shot a roll, then bought a Bronica 645 RF - first two rolls being processed. Now really lusting after an M - I have the lenses for my RD-1 - lusting after film point and shoots, sorting out what I need to develop at home and seriously considering an Epson 4990. Help :bang:

This is a great place, but its becoming expensive 😀

Congratulations Mark! I couldn't say it better. I have a 8 year old M6 that continues to serve me well and I take it everywhere I travel. However, having handled the MP in the store, something touches me and inspires me to make quality photographs with it. It must be the heft, and logo, and everything else. And I feel inspiration is the most critical factor at this point. There's no point having all the cameras you want, if you don't feel like going out and shoot.

And I'm glad to hear you bought from Tony. I just bought a black MP from him, and the service is truly top rate. And I live in LA, so I drove 50 miles and boy, he showed me some good stuff. The MP3 is gorgeous!

You will soon forget about the pain of the cost of entry, and enjoy many years of service from this wonderful camera.

John

Congrats, Mark! I was all set to order two ala carte black paint MPs from Tony plus glass - but then I discovered we didn't win the PowerBall drawing.

Enjoy!

Awesome camera- I have a silver MP as well. I am looking forward to buying my next lens(es) from Tony again.

Mark,

Hate to be another "me too" post, but congrats on your MP. I also bought an MP from Tony last summer before the price increases, along with a 50 f/2 Summicron, and have since purchased a used 75 f/2 from him as well. After having had a (recent) bad experience with another Leica "dealer", I've decided that I'll probably be ordering all of my future gear from Tony from now on.
