Good for a laugh

Did you see his shipping charge? $18.29 via UPS. I had a pair of loudspeakers shipped about the same distance via UPS three years ago from a reputable store for six bucks.

The camera is a Zorki. He's got is listed as a "ZOPKUU", which is what the Cyrillic of "Zorki" engraved on the body vaguely looks like.

In other words, this is one lazy seller. Also, I'm easily amused. 😀

Hold it! This guy is a Titanium Power Seller.... So does this mean that RFF will soon have to adopt a new name: "SplitScreenDesignForum.com?"

Okay, okay, sorry. It's getting late and I'm easily amused too. I'll go to bed now.

I think the seller is just unfamiliar with cameras, let alone FSU cams. He seems to be more into clothing items and fashion accessories. I doubt it's anything to do with laziness, judging by the number of listings the seller has.

He shorted the description by making no attempt at the name of the lens... IOTTUTEP. Well, I guess the lens doesn't matter much if the camera takes the image not from the lens but from those little windows!

I suppose back-translating something from Japanese would be tougher, Nick. I agonised for hours wondering what the writer meant by a German town called Wufusuburugu, after a while the penny dropped: Wolfsburg, home of Volkswagen.

Recently I saw a Kneb going on ebay - actually I would love to have a camera called a 'kneb' - sounds exotic! However any Lomo LCA fans would be shooting homos so maybe we shouldn't go there....

Incidentally some soviets find the western craze for Lomos particularly amusing since they are very close to the word 'lomat'; the Russian verb for 'to break' 😀

It was funny enough to ask for a Hoegaarden beer in US. When we said it third time, and the waitress still didn't get what the hell we are talking about, we pointed to the name on the menu. Ah, Howgardin, sorry! she says.

Exactly the same story with Pilsner Urquell at another place, in Boulder Colorado... Except that she did not say sorry, she said something like "that's how WE say it here in the US" 😀
She was a teenager I think. Later on she decided to "broaden the horizon"(her exact words!) of my boss, a very self-confident german guy of fourty-something. I have to say the guy really got pissed off.

Hooharden. "Hoo" like "lens HOOd"; the second "h" is swhere between h and g; and the rest i can't write down. Somebody else maybe?😀 In fact it's quite close to the british pronounciation of the word "garden" but with a stronger "r".

When the Chevy Nova was first introduced years ago and people began driving them into Mexico, the Mexicans were reduced to hysterics.

In Spanish " no va" means "It doesn't go."

Hoegaarden is an actual village close to Leuven/Louvain in Belgium. There were several breweries that each made local beers that where appreciated in some cities in Belgium. They stopped brewing the white beer in the fifties. Mr. Celis, who as a boy lived close to the last brewery making the white beer and often helped there, started brewing it again in the seventies. It had considerable succes under the name 'Hoegaarden', until a fire destroyed the new brewery and Celis had to sell his beer/brand to the Interbrew-group (based in Leuven). They made the beer into a big succes in Belgium and worldwide. Celis moved to Texas and started a new brewery. His beer is now selling under the name 'Celis' White'. It is now again available in Belgium, where a Belgian brewery brews it under license.
In attachment how it's pronounced in Belgium. However, usually I order a 'witbier' or 'white beer', as Hoegaarden is only one of several brands of white beer available in Belgian cafés.

As of June 1, NY state sales tax is going down. To 4%. What a consumer will actually pay will depend on the county. In NY there is state and county taxes and these are added toghether. In my county it's now 8.25% and it will be 8% after June 1. Any one in NY buying stuff should be aware of this. Ask your ebay sellers before you send 'em any $.

Talking about cars with funny names, any spanish speaking people here who want to drive a Mitsubishi Pajero?

Big four wheel drive typicaly seen in cities, maybe the name is apropriate 🙂

Socke? "Mitsubishi Straw Salesman?" I'll stick to my Chevy "no va."

Where do they get these names? Pajero? Why not "pajaro." Although how you get a 5,000 pound bird off the ground is another question.
