Gordy neck strap with heavier cameras?

OK so I'm thinking of getting a Gordy neck (or maybe sling) strap for my MF cameras (Bronica SQA & Mamiya C220 w/ WLF).

I plan on carrying it over my shoulder because I don't like things dangling from my neck. I figured that a wider strap is better but I like the looks of the Gordy and I don't plan on carrying a MF camera without a bag so often so some discomfort can be compromised.

Would this kill my shoulder? Anyone use a Gordy strap for their heavier cameras?

My heaviest setup would currently be ~1.2kg, and I feel that the bumps from where the strap meets the neck pad cuts in a little to much to be comfortable for carrying longer periods.
The pad is rather small, so it won't distribute the weight over a very large area either.

For medium long periods I'd recommend the curved R-strap, and for even longer, I'd recommend the straight ditto, so that you can switch shoulder. Too bad they don't look nearly as good as the Gordy strap!

Not a super heavy camera, but the strap can easily handle a larger camera.

get one like kshapero's and you'll be good to go. I've used a regular gordy strap (with cord ends) on my c330 + 80/2.8 and it was a bit too much weight for a thin strap, it hurt my neck a bit (the cushioned nylon strap i had on the mamiya broke right before i was going to shoot, so it was an improvisation)

I hate to butt-in here, but do folks wear the Gordy strap "bandolier" style across the chest, or just around the neck? If worn across the chest, does the strap + pad move pretty smoothly against clothing?

I was planning on using it bandolier style but it looks like the R strap is a more practical and safer choice.

Well, I'm going to give the Gordy strap a go anyways, lol, and if it doesn't work out then I'll put it on a 35mm SLR and go with an R strap. The gordy straps just look so good!

Using a neck pad for heavier cameras works to spread the load. I use one of my neck straps, with neck pad, to carry my Mamiya Universal. That's a heavy camera!

Consider an UpStrap, and hang it from your shoulder.

I have a number of Gordy straps. Some of the nicest made. Just my opinion here.....I think a UpStrap would be better for a heavier camera. The non-skid pad distributes the weight well. I have one for my Rolleiflex. Almost all of my smaller cameras have a Gordy's strap.

I agree - UpStrap is the way to go. I use one on my M6 and one of their heavier duty ones on a hard case that holds my three Rolleiflex. A bit heavy on the shoulder (not the fault of the UpStrap) but the case also has hand straps.
