What is improved or different about the new Digisix 2?

I have the digisix and the only difference I see is the contrast measurement. As much as I like it I think it's too small I have a Minolta Autometer 3 as well and it much faster and easier to use in a hurry and if I don't want to carry that I use my iphone app.

Actually... both of them have the contrast measurement. In the digisix, if you keep the button pressed and move the meter around, it will tell you how many stops above or below surrounding objects are. Isn't that the contrast measurement?
I guess the only difference is the black dial vs the white dial?! 🙂

They could have improved on battery drain (maybe an off switch) though - my Digisix needs a new battery about every 6 months.

The batteries are pretty inexpensive, especially per dozen, or so.

I am glad yours lasted 6 months. Mine usually lasted a day. Sent it back twice and they didn't do anything to it. It has been in its box since then about 4 years.

I've just changed the battery in mine for the first time and I think I must of had it for at least a couple of years.

The batteries on my Digisix 2 have been lasting about a year. I can live with that.

According to the Gossen website, the Digisix and Digisix2 are the same except for cosmetics.

That's too bad, because if there was ever a meter needing a rethink and redesign, it's this one. I bought one about a year after first introduced. It's small and reasonably accurate, if not too selective in its area of measurement. Setting or resetting the ISO is a nightmare of small button management. It's limited controls by mini-button (multiple purposed) are confused by the inclusion of pointless functions which you have menu through each time you need to do other than take a light reading. The plastic its tiny dials are made of is brittle and easily cracked. Hugely over-priced. I use mine occasionally in the field taking landscapes as a backup and to quickly check weather and lighting changes not needing a spotmeter. If it breaks, I would never repurchase.

Mine lasts about a month in its pouch. I really wish it had an off switch. I dislike it for that reason.

Yes it's a frustrating instrument at times. Because the neoprene case is soft it's really easy for the 'measure' button to get pressed on in your bag. The only think that keeps me using it (when a spotmeter isn't called for) are the results....which are always accurate....
