I wanted to share that I got a G2 with 28/2.8 and 45/2 this week.
So far I am impressed to see how everything seem to be just perfect, the built of the camera and lenses is on a very high standard, it feel solid and precise. The knobs and buttons are just at the right place. The focus is very very fast and seem to work well in dim light. A can't wait to see the pictures of my first roll!
I got the lens hoods for both 28/2.8 and 45/2 lenses. I'm not a big lens lens hood user myself. Does any of you can comment on the performance of the lenses with and without lens hood?

Using the hood makes it easy to swap caps in the field because all hoods have the same diameter.
I use the 28mm without the hood and never saw flare, but I'm ordering a hood anyway just to simplify the lens cap situation.

Never used hoods...never had any issues. The lenses all use 46mm caps, I ordered some of the eBay generic pinch caps so as not to lose the nicer Contax ones.
One recommendation -- get your hands on the deep rear caps. They will fit on all lenses. That way it's impossible to mismatch a shallow cap with an extended rear element lens like the 28mm.

Thanks for the link, it was good reading. I like that focus lock button/recompose method.
I will do as you say, no lens hood and generic lens cap - one more reason is that the original lens caps were not included in the kit.
And UV filters are going to protect the lens element while shooting.

I use hoods on all g lenses in my G2 kit, except 21mm biogon, which doesn't have a dedicated hood. I have GK-54 metal hood caps on the top of the hoods. They fit all the hoods and protect lenses (filters) from dust. Even better, find plastic caps that would fit on the hoods, as the metal ones are bound to be dropped on the ground and suffer dinks. The diameter of 21mm with the filter on is exact to fit in the GK-54 cap.
