I got the call at about 11:10 am EST this morning.

My UPS store, where I now have my mailing address - thanks to Canada Post consistently FOLDING my copies of LensWork to put into my 4"x4" home mailbox (even though they are sent in a hard cardboard package) - called me today to let me know that a package had arrived from KevinM in Connecticut.

I raced home from work (I got my priorities right???) and snagged the package.

I opened it up and found, in amongst foam peanuts and bubble wrap, a black leather Leica lens case which contained the black summilux that I purchased from Kev.

It's a sweeeet looking lens. Sure it's not the ASPH, but it's as close as I can get to one (it's the E46 version - the one directly before the ASPH implementation).

The one thing that surprised me was it's size. I really, for some reason or other, thought it was going to be "bigger" because it is a faster lens. I do not have a recent 'cron to compare it to; only my 50mm Hexanon-M - and it's basically the same size.

I can't wait to use it this weekend!!

Dave, if you get a chance, snap a picture of it mounted on one of your cameras.

Also, post sample pictures when you have them! Congrats!

I have this same lens (E46 pre-asph) and it lives on my M6. I sometimes use the summitar off my iiic when I want that "look" but the summilux is my most useful all-around lens. Congrats on the great buy.

great minds think on the same wavelength, after you jumped on Kevs incredible deal I went looking and bought the same lens (in chrome from another member here), it came in today as well. It's an awesome lens!!! I mounted it on a familiar to you M6 😉

After looking at Gabriels pics I had a baaaaaaaad case of "Summilust".

Kevin: Yup, heresy.

Damn! 🙁 🙁 🙁

I've been working weddings for the last four years shooting Leica M's (with an EOS-3 in the bag) and I find this forum just after I sell them!

Oh well, I'll just have to get the light seals in the Canonet fixed.

And if you see me posting any buttery smooth images and you think I used a 75 Summilux, you'll know better. 😉

I'm betting you'll like both the in-focus rendering and the bokeh. The effing ginormous light-hole in front doesn't hurt, either. Mine's like a big fat mild-mannered solid uranium Summicron that goes to eleven.

Please show us some pictures taken with it, when circumstances permit.

Super Dave! You'll love it!

The black paint pre-ASPH 50 Summilux I have has been glued on my M4 with a 1.25x magnifier for a few weeks and I'm rediscovering 50mm all over again.
