I asked for and got a 'Media Pass' to the Easyriders event here in Wilson. I'm hoping to be able to write some and sell photos and words. I'm slowly making my dreams come true! A lot of that is thanks to my friends on RFF - your advice and support have been most appreciated!

Best Regards,

Congratulations Bill! Gaining access to special events or closed circles like that is wonderful. It takes time, patience, good PR and determination. Are you planning to specialize in a particular subject (more like documentary work) or do you want to cover just about everything (more like press work)?

Enjoy that Easyriders gig. They're usually quite something to witness and enjoy. Lots of things happening all over the place.

I'm having quite a time with the gothic and fetish scene here as I'm getting more and more access to all sorts of activities no outsider ever ears about. My only problem is that about 50% of what I shoot cannot be published anywhere.

Have fun!

I had a great time! In answer to your question, I don't know what I want to do yet. I know I enjoy writing and putting the words with my photos - telling a story, whether it is fiction or more-or-less straight reportage. I am just sort of feeling my way around here.

I do know one thing - when I say 'media' people ask me what they can do for me. That's kind of nice - trying not to abuse the privilege. I didn't lie or make up a story to get my media pass, I said I was going to put it on my blog and I will do that. I'll also see if anything I did is saleable outside of that - if not, then it is just fine experience. It was nice when I picked up my pass - they said 'thanks for covering our event.' Nice!

That's great! Getting that pass is a nice feeling. Having people telling you they appreciate that you're covering their event is really nice. You get real access and lots of help if you play your cards wisely.
