GR Digital V to have APS-C sensor

Original DP - considering it's dimensions, take into account that many mod to have lens extended permanently to prevent ribbon cable wear. Mine isn't pocketable anymore (not that I ever carried it in a pocket) 😀

It's similar... may I ask what type of pants you wear because my DP2 Merrill would never fit in my pants. My days of super baggy pants are over.

If this is no vapor-ware, and anything as good as the original GRD I briefly owned and the GXR I currently shoot, I might ditch my Leica film bodies altogether and use the Leitz glass only, with this GRD V.

The more I think of it, the less it makes sense to put in such a big sensor if it's going to change the form factor and still call it a GRD. Taking the Sony sensor that's in the RX100 would make much more sense.

But who knows...

this is what it boils down to for many people. thats why i decided to skip out on the RX100 and the upcoming Pentax camera.

Every time there is talk of a new camera on RFF, no matter how big or small or if it's a successor to a previous version that also didn't have a viewfinder, a number of people find it necessary to post that they won't buy it because it doesn't have a viewfinder.

It should just be some sort of automated bot. Perhaps it is.

Or maybe a separate sub forum, Viewfinderless Cameras although I guess since it is the Rangefinder Forum, perhaps they truly don't belong.

I use feel that way about the necessity of having a viewfinder for years.

When I bought my GRD I also bought a CV 28 VF and ,you know what , I never use it.

Slows you down...much more intuitive and fluid to use it without but at first its a hard habit to break.

If they keep it compact it could be a pip. With a properly placed hot shoe a fixed focal length lens camera can be used old school Leica style.
I really do think that this sort of camera configuration, sans Vf, should have the optional use of an external OVF with ' heads - up' display technology. This would really bring the configuration up to date sort of speak while taking a design cue from an earlier age of photography.
The problem is electronic viewfinders are all the rage. But a OVF done right, on a fixed fl camera with heads up display tech would be sweet.
I'm not sure but maybe Fuji is using HUD tech on the x20 Vf?

I was all set to pony up for the new x100s. This certainly complicates things.

To keep the camera slim, I think they need to get rid of the LCD.
In its place, transfer a preview image wirelessly into my smartphone.

The biggest irony is that the original GR-1 managed a full-frame "sensor", an optical VF and it's not thicker than the current GRD cameras. Yet still have a space for a film canister *and* a motor strong enough to wind it both ways. 😀

i just bought a IV, but if results turn out promising, wouldn't mind at all snatching this baby up either.

i would really hope the size stays generally the same. one of the main reasons i have been taking the GRD everywhere lately, and more often leaving my M9P at home (gasp)
i don't know if keeping the size is entirely possible with the added improvements, but if they do, that will be something i jump on.

Because camera manufacturers need to learn that leaving out viewfinders in cameras like the GRD's makes them a half baked product. A small GR1v style optical VF doesn't take up much room at all.

Exciting news. Ricoh makes good cameras. I wish their JPEG engine was a little better...I don't like shooting raw. Still, they will be one step behind Fuji with the X100s and the X-trans sensor. But fast autofocus would be nice. I found my x100 and xe-1 sluggish...
