GR Digital V to have APS-C sensor

I do wear skinny jeans. Or at least slim tapered jeans. Usually Diesel, True Religion or Seven. All of which are fairly "skinny".

No camera is "pocketable" for me except for my phone so I don't really take pocketability into account when purchasing a camera. But even with khakis on, I don't think I'd want that guy ridin shotgun.

I understand. I'm thinking it is more jacket pocketable for me too. Jeans... it'll still feel like I have too damn much in my pockets, but it'll come in handy at times.

With my GRDIII, I would usually stick it in my back pocket and when I sat down, I would just pull it out and put it in my lap or on the table if at dinner or something. That worked pretty well.

Either way, Ricoh has done a lot of things right with this camera. Pocketable or not, it looks like a super-duper camera. I can't wait to see what you guys think about it.

Sure, I'll give my opinion as it compares to my other cameras. 🙂 I won't be doing any tests though or going through all modes. I'll set it up as I like to use my cameras and then go out and photograph. I'll be able to give my opinion on things like lens, IQ, af speed, and pocketability as they compare to the X100s, X-Pro1, and Sigma DP2m.

Not interested in whether I can put it in my pocket but a comparison of high iso would be useful.
I`ve already seen enough of the high ISO capability of the Merrill to discount the reports that it is somehow deficient.
Much better than my GRD 1 and therefore good enough for me.

I can't imagine any modern APS-C camera will disappoint you then Michael.

Actually assuming the GR is not much bigger than the GRD IV, it is very pocketable for me as I do not wear tight pants. In fact, the LX7 as evident from the picture above is much less pocketable mainly due to form factor (i.e. lens protrusion).

I keep meaning to do comparisons between my many cameras, but I never get around to it. So instead of saying how I'll write about the GR once it reaches me, I'll just shoot with it and comment as desired. B&H have changed their availability date to the 27th of May, which means another two weeks before I receive it. Which may be just as well, because I'm so busy at the moment that the GR would be a magnificent distraction!

Congrats to the first, very early receivers. I'm just waiting for my B&H preorder to come through. Only another week or two.

The guys at my local had a preview model in on Friday. This is one where the firmware wasn't production yet - still in beta I assume. Their comment on the camera was that the focus speed was FAST. Sadly they didn't get to assess or look at any images since the firmware was still beta.

Unless of course you can read Japanese, I sure hope the menus will have other language options. I couldn't buy an LX3 in Japan due to the menus only being available in Japanese.

One of the reasons I bought a Leica D-LUX 4 here, Panasonic and Sony are Japanese only menus (unless you buy an export model at a premium price).

Fortunately Ricoh is one of the companies that has English in their camera menus. And one of the reasons the Nikon Coolpix A even if equal or if it may have advantages doesn't cut it.

BTW: this is the first time I've bought without post release evaluations. But from the pre-release reviews I feel confident any issues that may need to be addressed (focus in low light and colour RAW processing) will be taken care of with firmware updates. A compact wide with good image quality for B&W is what I'm after.
