Hi all,

I have been lurking on rangefinder forum for quite some time and this is my first post. I have been having problems scanning colour with my Epson 4490. I use the software that came with the scanner and have no problem with scanning black and white 35mm and 120 but colour is really grainy.

I would have just assumed it was down to my poor exposure if it was the same with B&W but it isn't.

I have attached some typical images for comparison, both using the same camera and lens combo (Voigtlander Bessa R2a w/Jupiter8).

Thanks for the advice,

Gary

PS I know my focus is off with the colour image 😉

You need to tell us more about the exact software selections and settings before we can give you appropriate suggestions/advice.

A detail crop of what you're concerned with would also help. What I see here looks fine, but I can't pixel peep like you're doing.
You can click on the picture, it takes you to photobucket and there you can download the full picture.

There is more pixels then information in the color one. But the effect is what I more or less expect. The picture is somewhat soft and there is some grain (well, not grain as it is color, but we all know what we mean by that) but to me not that excessive. But I don't know the film and don't use a flatbed. Somebody using a flatbed would be of more use then me.

Sorry, I've been away from home for a few days. Thanks a lot for your responses. On reflection I think it is more likely that my exposures have been poor 🙁

I have screen shot my set up for colour and black and white scanning just incase you have further advice,

Thanks again,

Gary
