GRD IV to compliment X100

I am surprised by the comment that the IV's raws cannot take sharpening. I sharpen the GRD III's raws and they come up wonderfully well. It is one of the sharpest small sensor cameras I own and in terms of resolution give aps-c sensors a good run for their money. If the IV's raws are different that would be both surprising and disappointing.

Having said that, I love to use the GXR and 28mm aps-c module, which I like more than the GRD III in terms of dynamic range and shallower depth of field. The colours are richer and more vibrant and there is real sense of depth from the wider dynamic range that I can't get from the III.

Sure, in certain situations very sunny that could be true, but at high ISOs, the GRD comes nowhere near giving APS-C a run for its money resolution wise. Again, I've never had to sharpen my GRD files.

Let me throw a spanner into the mix. I played with a X10 today which seemed interesting so I wonder how it will compare at 28mm to the GRD. Maybe another test I'll have to perform....

I'm selling my X100 at the moment and will replace it with the GRD IV. I've got a GR1s, GRD and GRD II and find that the M9 - GRDx is the perfect digital combo.

I'm selling the X100 because I find it superfluous...

Didn't like it. I think there's great potential in the hybrid viewfinder, but it was too unpredictable in its present iteration.

And the size: too close to my M9. For 'what camera do I take?' it was a battle the X100 would never win.

I think I'm going to sell my GRD IV on - it's a great camera and the low-ISO files are shockingly good (and higher quite nice for a small sensor), but it's a bit too close to my X100. There's rarely been a time when I took the GRD with me that I couldn't have taken the X100 - particularly since I just got myself a Billingham Hadley.

I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying and using my GRDIV more and more. Other than the technical reasons for why it's such a good small sensor camera, I just seem to be "bonding"with this camera more than most digitals (at the risk of sounding too vague here). I think it's partly the fact that, once set as you like it, it doesn't get in the way of you taking a picture and it's very responsive, and partly the fact that it's so small that it's always with me. I still wish there was a 40mm version of the GRDs but I'm becoming more comfortable with the 28mm focal length.

i'd never used any Ricoh camera before the GRD4 and i absolutely love the camera. because of its size and fast AF i find myself preferring it over my E-P2 whenever i don't need a different focal length/zoom and quick manual focusing. that's the only thing that bugs me about the GRD4, manual focusing. i'm no good at distances, so while the distance scale is awesome being able to tell when something is in sharp focus via the LCD is very hard. even with (extremely pixelated) magnification. i suspect that i've been spoiled by the E-P2 in that regard as it has awesome magnified manual focusing....
