grdIII

I sold the GRD3 and bought a GRD4 and, for me, the faster AF, IS, and increased dynamic range made it a worthwhile upgrade.

At the risk of going slightly off thread can anyone point me to a comparison between the 4 and the GXR or are they essentially the same apart from the detachable lens facility?
I have the first GRD and at some time would like to upgrade.
Thanks

I don't think I've seen that comparison. The GXR is a large sensor mirrorless (well, depending on module chosen) and the GRD is a small sensor P&S... that is the big difference.

so i ended up going with the III...

as cool as IS and lowlight are, i don't think that is the primary purpose for a camera like this. by the sounds of it, low enough shutter speeds can be done without it.

the extra $200 will be better spent elsewhere, methinks.

my GRDIII came in the mail today. just testing it around the house and stuff, i have concluded that this was a good purchase. i really like it.

did anyone else notice HUGE AF gains after installing the latest firmware? i think i did. i installed it pretty quickly, but it seems to be much faster.

I also bought a GRD III recently and it arrived a few days ago. Before that I had a Lumix LX5 and I found that I was fighting the camera just to set ISO and the aperture. I liked the image quality but the controls and the lack of compactness solidified my resolve to sell this camera and get the GRD.
When I got the GRD I was amazed by how well thought the controls were. I spent an an hour reading the manual, setting the MY modes and the Fn keys and that's it! No need to dive in the menus anymore. Exposure compensation, ISO, focus mode and even flash compensation are all available in two button presses or less.

Enjoy the GRD!
