Mine threads in about 3/4 of a turn, and is quite secure. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about tearing the original rubber hood.

It looks excellent, and works very well. The thing I like about it is that the cap is integrated into the hood like on the 35/1.4 ASPH, and I really like either sliding hoods or fixed ones better than screw in ones. The only downside to Shepherd's design is that it is time intensive and requires care when doing it. I filed for a few hours while watching tv before I got the retaining ring to the right thickness. It works like a charm now and looks great too. I just need to find a little rubber piece to attach to the aperture ring so it is a little easier to get at (it is not hard, just not as easy as before...a little rubber piece would like he uses on the site would work great.

i don't normally use filters but with this hood, as it is screw in, no series filter will work.

The best solution for filters is probably just to partially screw in a normal 39mm one. Or, if you can find it, some sort of step up ring. I have not used filters with the CL yet, but if I did, I would probably just hold one of my 67mm ones over the hood and do it like that.

mine arrived today.. it's drop-dead gorgeous and fits very securely on my 40/2 'cron.. definitely the best hood I could have found for anywhere near the price

Ywenz, that's a nice hood but not the hood I got. The one I got is identical to the photos in the first post of this thread.
BTW, it fits my 50/2 Summicron DR and 50/2.8 Elmar-M perfectly! The chrome DR with the black hood on my black MP looks cool!
Anyone know if this will fit my 50/1.5 Summarit? I sent it off to DAG before the hood arrived.....

BTW Joe, thanks for pointing this hood out. Been wanting to get a hood for my 'cron DR and Elmar but lamenting the Leica version prices, now, problem solved!

I have both hoods. The one that's the subject of this thread doesn't line the vents up perfectly with the RF when using a CV 35/1.7. I could unscrew it a little, but it's not a problem. The cheaper hood, no problem, even with the 40.5mm ones on a J-3 and a J-8.
Just the luck of the draw, I guess.
I paypalled redleica1 at auction close. It arrived in the UK from Hong Kong a week later, pretty good, I think.

I would think the hood will fit any lens with the same filter diameter.

I was comparing the Redleica hood to the detatchable hood that came with my 50/2 Summicron (the clip-on variety).. I really prefer the Redleica hood.. it's more secure, looks nearly the same, but is narrower at the waist where it screws in, making aperture changes a lot easier (at least on my 40/2 'cron).. there is also the durability factor of metal vs plastic
