I'm always on the lookout for shoes that will help me survive those long long walks when I'm out shooting. As I get older I need this more than ever. My Merrell shoes are okay, but they're not great. And when I tried the shoes my son recommended - Clark Dessert Boots -- I looked so stylish but ended up with blisters. A few years ago I bought an anti-fatigue mat from a company called Skydex -- and the mat was fantastic in every way. Really saved my legs. So when they e-mailed me about their new Battle Trainers and provided a coupon code SPRINGSHOES -- I had to give them a try. They arrived 2 days ago, and I love them so much I bought a second pair today. Here's the link: https://www.skydex.com/store/shoes Skydex manufactures for the military and to spec -- the fit, finish, and details are great. These shoes only come in a dessert tan camouflage -- I thought my wife who is a shoe-aficionado would hate them, but she doesn't -- she thought they were cool 🙂

I have no affiliation with the company whatsoever. And if anyone else has shoe recommendations I'm all feet - error, ears.

I have a pair of Ecco shoes (of course, I forget the model; sorry). Extremely comfortable for extended walking, like around a city. I know Mephistos are supposed to be "all that" but I tried several pair on once and they just weren't right -- especially at the price they want for them. My wife swears by Merrell slip-ons.

Hearing about your 'boring' sneakers & boots

I will have to post a photo
Of my favorite hi heeled Swedish clogs 'hasbeens'
Love them so much , I got them in 2 'styles'
Tres Comfortable ...😉

I think i've got one on ALL you gents... wink, wink

I'm dreading the day my $30 discount pair of Lafuma boots wear out to the point of no return. A good hiking book keeps the ankle well supported, and vibram soles have a good reputation.

Red wing 8138s are great, a bit sketchy in the snow however. The tread in the crepe sole seems to fill up with snow and make traction an issue.

I also have a pair of Eccos that I use for lots of walking. Took them all over Ireland, Italy and Holland. My Nike's were not as comfortable.

Chucks with Superfeet inserts, or Vans. I'm a fan of very plain sneakers.
Actually, the most comfortable shoes I've worn have been New Balance minimus running shoes (for you non-runners, think of the Fivefingers foot-glove concept, but meant to look like an actual shoe)--no padding, completely flat), and my Allen Edmonds dress shoes. But the former are neon yellow and drenched with sweat and mud, and the latter I'd rather not get scuffed if I have to rum from an angry subject.

In the seventies Fry boots were popular because they also served as weapons if you needed them. Not really made for running, but they were good for fighting.

Similarly I don't mind wearing heavy construction boots today for some of the same reasons I wore Fry boots in the seventies. If I need a weapon, I'm wearing them, and they are in plain sight.

I don't mind the extra weight because I go shooting for the exercise and to stay young. The boots I wear are kinda heavy duty and are designed for hard use. I'm currently wearing Wolverine's 1000 mile boots, but the price is not cheap, about $360.00.

I'm wearing Ecco too. Bought them as a rainy-day shoe but now they're on my feet just about all of the time, wonderfully comfortable. Extremely durable very high quality leather and soles, they must have used a 'deep' dye, polishing is maybe a once/year exercise. On my 6th year and they still look virtually unworn.

They'll be on my feet when I wander around Prague with my camera in July.

My Blundstones are now five years old:

I completed my MA research in them and walked about a dozen islands on two continents in them. They are in poor shape now with a hole on top from an ice shard on Fogo Island, but they are probably the favourite pair of shoes I own.

I like the Ecco brand as well.. I have owned the Mephisto and they can be very comfortable, but for me it takes a bit for them to break in (sole to conform to your feet) but the Ecco tends to be comfortable day one.
