Great shoes for photography...

Where do people BUY their shoes/boots? I'd never consider buying a pair that I couldn't try on.

I either buy from an outdoor shop (the one in Skipton is my favourite), or (in the case of Vegetarian Shoes), I buy from the shop in Brighton.

Actually, with the latest pair, that's not the case, but I know their sizing, so I was confident about ordering online.

Italian moccasins from Greece (half the price one pays in the UK) ... Grenson for boots and formal shoes ... although infrequently as they will rebuild the old ones a few times, my boots did about ten years before needing doing

I 've used quite a few pairs of Nike Air Max 95 over the years. For my feet/gait (slightly heavier gait outwards) these have been the most comfortable trainers I've ever tried. Right now I am using Adidas Stan Smiths (prolly a regress to my adolescent fashion desires), as well as Berghaus Cuesta 2 hiking shoes. They are good, very resilient too. When somewhat smarter dress requires it, my favourite shoes for walking/photographing are Tod's leather sole loafers. A cautious recommendation for any/all of the above -- we are all different in feet/tastes/budgets.

As a practitioner of the fine art of gout, I am somewhat selective about what footwear I use. So far Merrills have worked out fine.

Plug for anything Hush Puppy. I've never needed anything other than regular footwear for my needs, shooting and otherwise, but when I used to spend most of the day on my feet in a bar job many years ago, Hush Puppies were the only things that would not leave my feet in agony come the end of the day. They have that nice comfortable walking-on-air feeling too 🙂

Vasque Whitney boots. 2 1/2 pounds a pair. Made in 1968 and re-soled by Steve Komito at his shop in Estes Park every 8 years whether they need it or not. The footbeds have molded to the exact shape of my feet.

Notice something? All the Skydex shoes have the same dimensions. They are all 7.5 by 5.25 by 14. It would make sense for maybe a size 13 to measure 14 inches on the outside. But so does a size 6; and, amazingly, a size 15 is still 14 inches on the outside. I wonder how they do that? Quantum theory, likely.

But that's the only thing I could find wrong! It looks like a great shoe! And the price is right!
