grips for the CL?

Anybody knows if there are any side grips that will fit the CL?
How about the one Voigtlander makes, will it fit nice?
I am also wandering about those ball grips, are they worth looking into?
Last question.. I suspect there arent any half cases for the CL, right?
 
Don't know where the tripod socket is on the CL- you might retrofit one of Tom A's grips if the tripod socket is like an M. I got one of those on my M5 with ten minutes of filing.
 
While not a grip per se, and as Al has already suggested above, the Luigi half case is a fantastic addition to the Leica CL. Really makes the lightweight body feel very solid and confortable to hold and use. That's what I use on my CL along with an M Classics wrist strap. I've posted previously about this along with a picture from backalley when he was using the same setup. Highly recommended.

Was it you who was having a machinist look into a grip? I'm interested in seeing your modified Tom A grip, as I've been looking for a grip for my M5.
 
Where is the tripod socket on the CL?

cpborello- You'll only need to file down the lip at the end of grip.

It is quite solid in use, might work for the CL as well- could be too tall, but a similar mod to the M grip could be possible.

My machinist has still not gotten anything finished for me, but this is an easy mod that works perfectly, and the grip is still good for use on a 'lesser':D M.

Note that the grip does need to be removed to change film. One drawback for those of us who shoot fast & furious. I have a screw from the M grip which is the same the baseplate lock, but the A grip uses a screw with a smaller head diameter, and the opening needs to be opened up to accept the M grip screw. I just keep a nickel in my bag till I can get it changed.
 
You can forget about the grip it won't work. The tripod socket is in the middle of the removable back on the CL. Even if you did fashion a custom job, you would have to remove the grip to get to the release catch with is around the the tripod socket. The luigi case is really nice but also half the price I paid for my CL, the kamraleder case is even more expensive.

I found a dead link to a japanees site that makes a half case called "caseworkshop" but I can't access it, think the site may no longer exist.

I am in the process of removing the hard and slippery vulcanite covering and replacing it with cameraleather.com's griptac for better handling.

That does rule out the Tom A or Leica M grip. I suppose the Zeiss grip might be an option, but I've never seen one of those, so have no idea.

The A grip does need to be removed from the M5 to load it- not a big deal in practice- less annoying than I had imagined. Avoiding the need to take the grip off was my main goal in the new design, but I'm very happy with the mod to Toms grip.
 
then again there is that chinese guy on ebay in hong kong who seems to make nice wood grips for film Ms and the M8, you might want to e-mail him and ask if he could make one for the CL. just search leica grip on ebay and you'll find it, pricy though $200 for one of his grips.

Compact is all well and good, but if it hurts to hold the thing a grip is worth it's bulk. Arthritic hands suck.
 
you should try griptac from cameraleather, doesn't look as pretty as lizard skin but it's got fantastic grip. I had a kit on a canon p and a spotmatic, oh and it's really cheap, i think the kits I got from Morgan Sparks were a little less than $20 a peice. The hard part is getting the old covering off.

this is a long dead thread but i thought i'd share a leica cl grip i found on the internet, which someone designed to be printed with a 3D printer. i downloaded the file, uploaded it to one of the 3d printer services, then ordered - iirc it cost about $8 for the grip, plus a few dollars shipping. i received the grip only a few days later, and it fits really well, weighs almost nothing, but seems sturdy. i added a tripod d ring screw from amazon and it attaches securely. imo it doesn't add materially to the overall size and weight, but ymmv. 3d printing is like magic. :)
