GSN focus grind

Ive noticed on my GSN that sometimes the focus gets a little gritty when focusing, its kind of annoying, sort of like the thing is about the seize then doesnt, after a while it sort of goes away but that thought is always in the back of my head about something wrong with the lens. Anyone else got this going on?

Avotius, I have just tried both of my GSN`s and whilst one is smoother than the other. Neither have agrinding feeling, although, one is very slightly lumpy? if thats the word. Maybe time for a CLA? Neither of mine have been CLAed, yet they are working ok,negs are evenly exposed,shutter speeds sound correct. The veiwfinders could do with a clean.

the small screws that are holding the focus ring, maybe they have to be unscrewed just a little, because I think they can sometimes scratch if they are too deeply screwed in. (maybe if the temperature goes up the screw get bigger....are you living in the northern emisphere? I mean is it winter now?)

The same thing happened to mine i was adjusting the focus ring so the infinity lined up and tightened the screws a bit much and it turned ok then got stiff then sounded like sand was in the focus helicoid, just slacken the 3 screw off a tiny bit and check, if it doesnt work try slacken them off a bit more, you only need to slacken a tiny bit each time, try to do them equally, and it will help

If you do that, I recommend a tiny drop of clear nail polish on each one so they don't loosen more, and perhaps get lost when you least expect it. 😎

The Electro 35 (as well as the MG1) suffer from the same problem. If one adjusts too much the three screws that hold the focus ring in place, things gets stiffer an there is a grinding feeling/sound sometimes.
Tightening too much just one screw is enough to get this annoying feeling.
Conversely, loosening them a bit makes the focusing easier.
It seems that the internal moving ring is a bit flexible and uneven or excessive pressure distorts it a bit, then exerting uneven or excessive pressure over the focusing helicoid.
The only trick is to tighten the three screws evenly.

I fell in the sand while walking and the camera went into the sand lens first. I think I've shaken most of it out. Is there any way for the sand to get into the lens? So far none has, but that would suck. I just got the darn thing and was shooting the 2nd roll. I was at the beach looking and a group of surfers walking with their boards, setting up the shot and I tripped over a rock that was under the sand and fell to my knees. If I would have had the camera around my neck it probably would have not made it to the sand. Very frustrating.

So anyway, what if it's actually sand scraping when you focus?
