GSN shutter, versions

Hi!

I recently picked up a GSN on Swedish Ebay, for 2$. The iso-dial is missing, and the shutter doesent fire. I have found the Iso-dial, so that problem is solved. The shutter however is behaving a bit strange.

At first, it didnt fire at all. All that happend was that the camera made a slight sound. I dissmanteld the camera, top/bottom cover and the lens with plate in the front. I found nothing that appeared wrong. When i re-assembeld the camera, the shutter suddenly worked, and the times are OK too.

When i compare it to another GSN that i have, it differs in the force needed to release the shutter. My other gsn fires the shutter a bit before the shutter-button hits the bottom, no force needed at all. The one i bought doesent fire, although it is in the bottom possition, if i dont press the button downwards, hard.

When i compared the two cameras i saw that there is some differens, my new one is made in hongkong. It also has a white sign that says "battery chek", my old one has a black one.

Is there something wrong with my shutter-releas? or could it simply be that cameras manucatured in HongKong differs from the ones build in Japan(?)

sounds very much like the Pad is missing from this one. The Pad keeps distance, a well defined distance, between two parts of the shutter release mechanism. When you push the button, the whole thing is pushed down, and there's a pressure on the Pad. If the Pad is missing, there's a gap there that has to be bridged so the button has to be pressed more than normally.
Now, the real bad news are, the Pad is also regulating the shutter times, so if it's gone/broken, the times become unreliable or even completely wrong.
The good news are the Pad can be replaced. Check www.yashicaguy.com and you'll see how. I did it without removing the leatherette and the camera works as it should since.

I have now replaced the pad, the old one was in bad condition, but probably did the job anyway. The camera behaves exactly the same way.

I took a look at the shutter release mechanism. When i push down the shutter release button, the triangled shaped piece(wehere the pad is located), goes downwards. It then hits a black cylinder 4mm in diameter, when this happens it releases the shutter. However, in order to hit this black cylinder the shutter release mechanism has to go so far down that it hits it end possition(barrely). This is probably what is causing the problem.

I realise that there probably is something wrong in the shutter, but i cant find anything wrong. My thought was to place a piece of tubing with inner diameter of 4mm, and outer of 6mm. This would make the shutter release mechanism trigger the shutter before it hits it endpossition.

Does anyone have any thought about this method?
