No wait, not the Summar.
Is it a pinhole?
Depth of field is enormous (though in some images, _nothing_ is in focus).

I've got one Elmar that produces simmilar results. The Summar is also a suspect but I guess it would produce much more of the so called Leica glow.

Needed a good CLA then. Used 3 of them. Never got soft results like that.nrb said:I've got one Elmar that produces simmilar results...

That was my first thought when I looked at the pictures. Everything is soft and the level of softness varies relatively little. Also, the behaviour of verticals suggests a pinhole, though I'm not sure on this point.

Great guesses, I think the Elmar guesses came the closest, with Summar possibly close. I've never used a Summar but have looked at a lot of photos on screen.
It's an Industar I-22 50/3.5 collapsible screw mount on a Leitz screw to M adapter on the RD1. Glass is clear of haze and fungus, and no cleaning marks, but some dust, probably could use a clean.
I have to admit that on a few (maybe several) of the real out of focus ones, that is not a designed in focus shift of the lens like the Sonnar, it was me not pulling the tube out completely.
The conversion from JPG/film mode 1 color from the RD1s to Sepia mode was done in Picasa.

Price of a good one was lower than the cost of the Leica CLA. And they weren't doing it any more...LCT said:Needed a good CLA then. Used 3 of them. Never got soft results like that.

but its results are aftually better he he.
I am, however considering it as a no-lens solution: a truly pockatable camers.

I would have said "plenty of Leica glow", but perhaps it's Chernobyl glow.
