I am certainly no Matt Black, but as a retired photojournalist who shot for The Chicago Tribune, I can state for a fact that I created quite a number of published images with a Nikon 1 V2, which had a 1" sensor. My editors couldn't care less what camera gear I used to "get the shot", all they cared about is that I "got the shot".

My problem with it is in order to charge it, I'd have to swtich on my PC or my Laptop if I wanted to charge it even if I wasn't using the PC or Laptop for anything else - just extra wear and tear on those things and extra electric beyond what would be needed if I had a wall charger.

Just get a USB wall wart. A couple of bucks. Or an aftermarket Fuji battery charger, there are many available.
 
Joe, Shawn, I understand your points, but the thing is it's an unnecessary expense on the buyer caused by the appliance maker.
 
Depends on your point of view.

I already have USB wall warts around. I've got literally dozens of them along with USB charging stations. And chargers for the same Fuji batteries. One of the nice benefits of Fuji staying pretty standardized on that battery for a bunch of cameras.

Don't need to pay for another superfluous one with the camera. (Not that I'm buying that camera, at least now new)
 
Nearly anyone who has a smartphone has a compatible power supply already. Why should manufacturers produce and ship yet more power supplies when anyone in the audience for these products is already equipped to charge it?

I have a dozen or two boxes for various things bought over the past five years sitting in the closet, each with the superfluous USB charger and connecting cable sitting in it, unused.

You add a plug to the USB cable.

It's not caused by the appliance maker. It's now standard.

I believe the EU led the way on this - no more wall warts to be included in the packaging to cut down on e-waste. Everything also has to use USB-C where possible: EU Common Charger Mandate Starts December 2024: What to Know - blog - IoT Consulting Partners

I don't know about you, but I've got a giant box full of unused, unneeded, and frankly poor quality USB cables of all types. I only really use the same four high quality ones - and even then, I only use four because of all the different standards (Lightning, USB-C, USB-Mini, USB-Micro) - so this is very much a Good Thing.

Apple was the first company to do this.

And unfortunately too many products need a specialized charger. I use samsung phones. I am on the second phone of the same model. Both came with a wall plug and charger cord. THe funny thing is, i cant use the new phone with the old charger cable and wall plug. IT literally wont charge. Doesnt even think its plugged to the wall.

Even tried random samsung chargers from newer phones from people at work, it wont read them.

I am guessing he means the first to not include a charger in the box.

I don't see much hate here at least, as I think most of the people here are in the "whatever floats your boat" kind of state.
 
Looks like a new pretend-to-shoot-film-while-recording-ones-and-zeros camera is coming to Kickstarter next month:

This looks like a fancier version of the Camp Snap, with a (fake) film winder and something like the "film roll" function of the X 1/2. The price is supposed to be about $150, which makes a lot more sense to me than what Fuji is asking for the X 1/2.

All in good fun, I guess.

[Edited to add: I found their website: echolens – The Vintage-Style Digital Camera for Film Lovers The example photos on their website don't even look as good as the Camp Snap's (to me at least; maybe they're just "more nostalgic"). I'm not too keen on the fake Leica design. The Camp Snap looks cheap, but at least it's being honest about what it is and not pretending to be something it is not. It also looks like this camera is going to require you to download photos to a smartphone via an app. That makes it a non-starter for me. This company and/or its app goes away, you're left with a $150 paperweight. No thanks.

Seems a really cool camera. If I hadn't have a DSLR already, it would be a cool starter camera comparable to a standard kitlens.
If I were 18 years again, I could certainly find myself in this kind of thing.

Specs are nice.
The D100 has a zoom, while the D300 has a fixed lens.
Aperture from F 1.6-2.8 or F 1.8 for the fixed one.
Although there's no mentioning of ISO.
You can put it full manual, but I'm wondering how long the shuttertime goes, B-function?
