Hanging out with the Canon 50/1.4

Another first run with a new to me lens.

This time the Canon 50/1.4. Just hanging out with some friends at my house.

Tri X at 1600 in Diafine.
 
Nice. Glad you like the lens, rover. I have been very pleased with the 50/1.4, too. I think it is a keeper.
 
No one 'round here is in a better position to judge a 50. How do you think the Canon 50/1.4 compares, say, to any one of the user Summicrons close to the 50/1.4's price?

I like especially the DOF on the 2nd shot, although they're all nice.
 
The last Canons, including the 50/1.4, and Summicrons are gauss lens designs. These are the first shots I have developed and scanned from this lens and I have to say that the first thing that came to my mind when I saw them was that they are similar to Summicron images. Considering that it is faster, has better coatings and I bet sharper at f2 than a collapsible Summicron I think the Canon is a winner. It is much bigger of course. I think will reserve comparing to my DR until I shoot that lens a little more. The DR is wonderfully made, so is the Canon, and seems to have some great character too. I think that is where the difference will be. Not so much which lens is sharper or "better." The Canon is faster and both lenses will have a different character. It is to the user to decide which is best.
 
Thanks for the response. To jump right to the point, you're suggesting the path of least resistance: buy it and try it. Oh well, I've never kept any money for very long anyhow ...
 
I think the Canon is a winner Mike, you can't go wrong. Of course, I haven't met a 50 I haven't liked....

And why choose just one?😉
 
I've heard enough. I'm off to hunt one up. It's only money. Seems like a good option since I can't afford a Summilux and even user Summarits have been priced up, except for real beaters on eBay.
