Has anyone seen this kind of Jupiter-8 before?

Came across this on the bay, was wondering if anyone has seen a model of the Jupiter 8 like this before? Seems quite basic looking and without apeture markers to use against the distance ring.

Hmm, it also has the shape of the latter, black ones, not of the early chrome ones...

Are the black ones any good? I was thinking of getting this little baby. It is going for £14 + p&p is that good?? Would the lack of apeture be annoying when trying to focus?

I don't have a black one, only three chrome ones (on early version with infinity lock, and two later ones); what would bother me on the black ones is that the front turns when focussing, so you cannot use a rectangular hood like the cheap ones sold by alex-photo - on the chrome J-8s the front does not turn.
ALos, the price is only good if you can pick it up locally and save on shipping cost - for 20 to 25 $ you can get one from most Russian sellers (I recommend alex-photo), and for 30 to 40 you can get one with an extra large rear lens cap (= Zorki 4).

I have a nice black one too. I am really happy with it. I use a Kodak Series VI hood with a 42mm push on adaptor ring. Nice to have that hanging around for my Canon stuff, a couple weeks ago I figured out that it would slip on the J8 too.

Wonder why someone would "skin" a black J8?

This lens is on page 143 of Princelle's book, second edition. It's identified as the K-570, C. 1965-1970, produced in chromed aluminum. A seemingly identical lens was made in black anodized aluminum from 1976 - 1992. IMO, the lens shown is the earlier chromed aluminum model.

There is a older thread on the different J8 types here and it shows the same late chrome J8 you have posted...

I'm surprised Roman, Rover or Kiev4a didn't mention it since they posted in the thread :D ... btw I have a couple of late J8's with s/n that start with a zero and don’t seem to correspond with a year of manufacture. I rather like the later versions of the J8 but then I don’t use a hood.

Oh and that lens you have pic's of does have DOF markers, that side view of the lens is showing it from the bottom of the lens, all the markings are on the top :)

The seller got back to my question with a quite surprising answer:

"First tens thousand this updating of lens Jupiter-8 had the white case.
To clear the case of a lens of a paint in my opinion very difficult process,
Which exceeds the benefit received from sale of a lens.
This lens had corrosion on the case and has been subjected to polishing.
Therefore I have designated its condition as "good". Thanks."

So there you go... I guess we can add this to the reference list boys! :)

I like the answer; straight forward and correct, IMO. In my reply above, I started to mention that the lens had been polished but elected not to. I figured it would be stating the obvious.

Saw an Industar 50 f3.5 (rigid version) on sale on the bay for $14. What do peeps think of this squat little lens? I know it's no jupiter but I quite like the sheer cheapness!!
