Just got back from the camera shop... Tri-x film, a dark slide cover that slips easily into a leatherette ID holder, and an excellent hood for the 80 mm lens. All for less than $25. Hmmm.. This stuff is cheap compared to the Leica stuff.

They had other things to sell for a Hassey but I was running late for an appointment. There is always next week.

Hassey bag alert...

The Billingham Hadley Pro is perfect for the HB 500 V cameras with lens and hood attached. The X1 and charger/batteriies go in one end compartment and the rest of the main compartment perfectly fits the 503cxi with 80/2.8 lens and hood attached. Using a divider for a long trap door in the main compartment, a second 500 identical in size can ride in the top. Or in my case, it remains empty for any other items to carry for the day.

Film, and all miscellaneous items go in front pockets and various other places. The inside pocket holds an iPad 2. The outer zip pocket is empty presently.

Now to find a decent tripod head toy my Manfrotto tripod.

I'll just add the Think Tank Retrospective 7 to the list of serviceable Hassy bags. It has room for my 500CM with lens, with compartments for two more lenses. I can get in an extra back and a compendium shade (and film and a rocket blower).

Thanks again, that confirms I have an older screen. I hope to come across the 42170 at a reasonable price because my eyes are not getting any younger!

Neither are mine. I can really benefit from extra magnification. I recently bought the HC3/70 prism, with 4x magnification and a diopter correction adjustment. I can set the diopter for my vision, and use the prism without my glasses in the way. It may be a bit heavy to hand-hold, but I can use it on a tripod. It has the highest magnification of any Hasselblad finder. I also use the PME45 (3X magnification); and the folding hood (2.5X magnification). I got rid of the chimney finder, as it has only 2.5X, no better than the folding hood.

For 80mm and longer, 2.5 or 3X are enough. But for wide angle lenses, I think I'm going to like the HC3/70. By the way, the shorter HC4 is only a 3X magnification.

The replacement screen is just... Ok... but not what it should be. So, I called and talked to Bill Maxwell for an hour this evening. Wow! What an education I received. He is very knowledgeable and generous to share.
He determined that I do not have the acute matte but, rather, an ind original Hasselblad screen. I then determined I need a new Maxwell screen. But which one?

Something to ponder now. 🙂

I knew just by the way you were working with the screen that it was not a newer Acute Matte. I have heard good things about the Maxwell's, but personally have never seen one or knew someone locally using one. With your sales friend now knowing what your need is; I'm sure things will work out better for you?

Well, you were correct. The old HB screen works fine but is not so easy on the eyes which means it is also slooooow with the occasional miss.

My choice, as Bill stated, is Brilliant Matte or Split Image. Apparently, I need both but it will be a stretch for just one. It seems, IIRC, that with mostly centered portraits, a split image may not be needed, so the Brilliant Matte is the better choice for me.

I would love to hear from Ithe Maxwell screen users.

Tomorrow, I will soldier on with a dim screen. But at least it is in the forecast that tomorrow will be sunny. Just in time for my trip to the country... Way out in the country. A place that has advertisements for a Hog Killin' now and then. The kind of place that I can not come across as a city dude from Atlanta!😱

I was stunned after using it the first time... It was deja vu all over again but it was the first time I ever shot a Hassy. Somehow the camera feels like it was meant to be and I love the workflow. Now to get the Maxwell screen and a custom leather strap. We are going to rock this Blad whilst I shoot a whole new portfolio.🙂

I might have a good use screen stashed away now that I remember. It's the same as my Bright good one except it has a very slight cleaning mark on it. You cannot see it when your looking through the viewfinder and lens. If I find it tomorrow, I will send you a email Dave.
