Everytime time is start to preview my scan the scanner will lock up and freeze. I have tried everything. When I click the preview scan button the scan reads to 4% on the SetUp Calibraton then freezes on the scanning. Has anyone else had this problem. I tried to run the scanner in Virutal XP but the scanner cannot be found. I am using a Microtek Artixscan 120 and Windows 7 64bit. I have a fast processor and 4 gigs of memory. I have read that is might be the scsi driver but they only have an update for vista.

If it's a SCSI connection, check in device manager (or its equivalent in Windows 7) to see if the adapter is operating properly and whether there are any conflicts. VueScan has some recommendation on SCSI ID setting ... I can't remember what the recommendations are, but it should be in the Help section.

You'd probably make your life a lot easier by creating a Win7 32/64 bit dual boot configuration - most scanner drivers and virtual SCSI drivers aren't 64 bit yet, and using them in a 64bit environment or in a 32bit VM on the same is very messy and crash prone.

Some observations from my experience. I have a Canon FS4000 (SCSI interface), using VueScan with Windows 7 64-bit. I have taken this combination from XP Pro (32-bit), to Vista 64-bit and now Win7 64-bit.

With XP, I used the Canon driver. Moving into the 64-bit world, I left the Canon driver behind (did not exist) and am now using the driver available with VueScan (this is one of the first questions VueScan asks, on installation). The VueScan driver has proved to be perfect, I am getting great scans, and it is very fast. Most of this experience has been with the 8.5 series (now 8.5.41). When updating, be sure to completely delete the VueScan directory.
