HCB booted from flickr

suddenly everyone was a graphic designer, producing the most gawd-awful 'designs' you've ever seen.. wedding invitations utilizing 8 fonts and color combinations unseen since 1st grade

I actually have done that, about 15 years ago, I hope the invitations I made are not still around 😱

I also remember some of the (anti) AA discussions that I witnessed on the LUG a while ago, and can't help to draw a parallel.
Did they also stem from ignorance of who AA was and photography in general?

(Note: I'm not a LUG member, am fond of certain AA landscapes, but he just couldn't shoot people).

Exactly.
One problem is that self-proclaimed experts confuse the critique of photos (or art) with superficial comments on (usually basic) technique, most often because that is all they know.

If at all they know ANYTHING !

One should not mix up two different issues: The first is that one can have different opinions indeed about HCB and the several parts of his work.

The second issue tho is that this story reveals the ridiculous and embarrassing incompetence of the self proclaimed experts mentioned above, for which the web communities are ideal playgrounds. The less they know the louder they are.
The only thing one can do is to stay away from such places.
