Capa used Contax and Rolleiflex. Ara Güler used Ms all the time. And the old Nazi bitch Leni Riefenstahl used Leica exclusively. But that is of course something the Leica marketing does not want to talk about.

Which reminds me, our own Queen is a long-time Leica user!

In the early 30's, Capa used a Leica IIIa. Sometime after the Spanish Civil War he switched to Contax II's, and after WWII he used Contax IIa's and a Nikon S. He died in May 1954, less than a year after the M3 came out, and he didn't use them.
Yeah, he used Rolleiflexes and others, but notice he used 35mm on Omaha Beach and elsewhere when under fire...much lighter, faster lenses, and longer rolls of film. You also don't have to stick your head up as high in a firefight to shoot an eyelevel finder as a waistlevel finder, which you basically have to stand (or sit) up for.

Leica presented Eisenstaedt with the 1,000,000 sn M3 ifor his contributions to PJ. He was credited as being the father of modern photo journalism.

Or you could hold the TLR upside down above your head. Thsi would have been advantageous for wartime photography.

How could you guys forget David Alan Harvey? Also, Larry Towell. Both Magnum, and excellent.

I believe Ansel Adams used a Leica for his "small" (35mm) stuff.

It's my understanding that Eugene Richards does not use a Leica or even a rangefinder for that matter. He's been known to shoot with an Olympus SLR.

One of my favorite Leica photographers was Henry Wessel. He used a Leica M, a 28mm lens and Tri-X and that's all. The man was a genius.
