Canon LTM Heads Up for All Interested ~ Canon Sonnar f1.5/50 on Evilbay!

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
The Canon 50/1.5 finally has inched up in market value based on its optical reputation. I have read for many years online commnets by owners of this lens, and these comments were 100% positive. Add to it that fewer copies were produced than of the Canon 50/1.4 [I think I am right here?], and you have a lens that had to get a higher sale value.

I now have such a lens, and I will make good use of it.

OK, guys. I decided to sell my Canon 50/1.5.

Very clean, with original hood, Leica LTM/M adapter, the cleanest copy I've had so far (and I'm picky and have had a few). With my Nikkors I just don't get to use it.

Whoever makes me the first reasonable offer by PM gets it. :)

Cheers,

Roland.

That is a generous gesture. I only have a small and easy to handle craving for this lens so will not PM you, as there obviously are those that have been wanting one for far more time than me.

I hope the new onwer will feast us on many nice shots, so in the future I also NEED to have a Canon 50/1.5

question since apparantly the only reason to buy this lens is the wide open performance do you have a ND filter in use for it? im not sure where to find a 40mm filter.

Roland,

And I quite feel the opposite, I`m selling my Nikkor "Japan" SC f1.4/50 with Hood ~ also the most mint example I`ve ever seen before, sadly I did`nt use the Nikkor as much as I use the Canon f1.5.

Good Luck with the sale, I know Roland and when he says it`s clean it`s clean :D

So stand by and wait and see who buys Roland`s lens, I`m ready to welcome someone new to the Canon 1.5 club soon! :)

Your 4th photo in that set is just excellent. Using color and modern films really shows how this lens equals (or betters) modern lenses.

Often, examples from this lens are portraits which are great, but show a unique swirly bokeh which is interesting, but your photos show more than this.

Ted -- Thank you. I agree, which is why I included "Fullen Road" in the little set. The Canon 50/1.5 gives you the classic "sonnar look" wide open, but stopped down a bit (that shot was taken at f.4) it's not too shabby for landscapes. Two for one, you might say. :)

And Steve - I forgot to compliment you on your photos posted up above. They are all excellent and I think can stand up to a comparison with any German lens. (GASP!) Uh oh. Now I did it...

Confess, Jim: You really, really want the Canon 50/1.5!! :D

No he doesn't :) He wants another body ....

No need to send me PMs anymore, BTW, I think my lens has a new owner (PM replied).

I'll reply to the others tomorrow - going to bed now, thanks everyone.

Roland.

OK, Jim, here's your chance! :D Roland is a great guy to deal w/ (after all, I got my 50/1.5 from him! :)). Think of it this way: You're building a collection of classic sonnar lenses (so you can keep the Sweeney/Zeiss!)! ;):D

Lord! He's got an M2, M4, R, and P. What more could he possibly want? Oh, sorry, I forgot what forum I'm posting on.... ;):)

Well, ya sees yer chances, and yer takes 'em. Cheers, Roland! :) I know there will be another happy 50/1.5 user soon.

With all the bells and whistles, *hood/caps/stock filter and case* EASY $500/$550! ~ I WOULD`NT SELL MINE FOR LESS!!!!!
*Well I`d never sell mine :D*

People seem to forget just how rare this lens is compared to other famous fast lenses of the 1950`s.

I think they made like 40,000+ Nkkor f1.4/50 SC in LTM and only like 9,000 Canon f1.5`s, so that`s hardly a comparsion.....

Tom

Tom,

At the going prices today, if you sell a 'set' with hoods, caps, filter and case for US550, it's a steal for the buyer!

Somehow, Canon lenses are not as 'collectible', perhaps that's why such a good lens is valued way below what it's worth, even though it's produced in much lesser numbers.

Cheers,

Roland was kind enough to offer it to me first via a PM. Had it been last month, I'd have bought it, having whined for so long... but that Zeiss is my 50 Sonnar of choice now, thanks to Brian's work. Maybe my Canon 50/1.4 has to go? Not sure. I like the 1.8 better than the 1.4 for some reason, not sure why. As for collecting, if I don't use it, I don't want it.

Off topic, I just dusted off my Fed 2b with a Fed 10 50/3.5 collapsible. I forgot how pocketable this is!

it's at 650 already!!! I think, even a scarface like mine will be valuable now. :)

That one is a beauty, alright. I never thought these would go that high. As you note, even a bad one would probably fetch the $450 I was willing to bid at one time.

I'm glad we have Brian ! Thanks, Brian. The Sonnar lenses are real beauties.

That latest Canon f1.5`s another " very late" 1956/57 production one......I suspect it`s maxed out already at $650?....hmmm well then who knows, maybe it will go ever higher?

My NK f1.4`s "up" in the classy`s if there`s anyone interested, and it`s "minty" with both caps and a hood ;) ~ I`m sellin while I just don`t use her enough, and I`m sure someone else will, b/c it`s mint and has a beautiful coating, I`m going to get my M6 CLA`d with money from it, it`s time for my ole gal to go to the Health Spa...... :D

Tom, the one you have in the classifieds is a real beauty. I wish I had the funds to get it. But, I am maxed out for another 6 months. Also, I need film for the 6x9. :D

I suspect the Canon will go higher, atleast 700~750.

Yeah, seems like everyone`s hurting now for $$$, I just can`t wait any longer to get my CLA work done, so I have to sell, I hope that I can find a new owner for that lens here at RFF.

I also have two Stepper IIIC`s that are also going up for full overhauls soon as well........I have a complicated month ahead. :bang:
