Helen Hill finally says Ciao ... it's been Fun

Life is all about choices
We roll the dice
We listen to voices
We make our bed
We have sleepy heads
Thoughts enter the picture
And what a picture we have
A rosey life
Corner office with a view
Sexy sex with who knows who!
But, that’s what, what we do
We make decisions
We disappoint many when we do
We disappoint our friends
And that means me and you!

Have a little faith
Don’t worry to much
Things are gonna be fine
Just be ready to stay,
In touch
And be kind

Just thought I’d share that.
Another one of my highly unpopular attempts at prose.

All the best,
Mike

I don’t post much but come by every day. Look up some old threads from 5 years ago. Different crowd.

All forums aren't popular anymore as well. They are on the steep decline.
Golden time of forums was before and little bit after FB, Insta time.
For sometime now FB allows to be more personal, Insta is more close to the money. And bright individuals don't have to wiggle their tales for nobodies.

For my taste golden era of RFF was gone once majority left film.
Film is interesting media on itself, digital is very unforgiving for the lack of the content. While getting into the content worth situation is very time consuming.

Yes the demographic changes in RFF as in real life. It changed in my photo association as well...almost nobody remember when we went out on weekend with a film in the camera and because film was expensive we were pushed to get the result with no more than 36 frames...but this is life, changes are important.

I have always seen RFF as a bar where you go daily after work or once a week but each time you probably meet different people, usual clients and new visitors. With some of them you are completely ok, others are too different in opinions, interest, character and you find difficult to connect with them and simply ignore them. Or sometimes you discover they are more "interesting" than what you believed at first glance. It happens

Different from a normal bar is the amount of knowledge in RFF, both analog or digital, gear or images, history or art...

I'm not on FB and IG for personal choice, I prefer my simple blog and RFF for my wworldwide photographic (and not only photographic) connections and find it very interesting to hope to be part of this group for a long time.

And through RFF I develop some good friendships which involved my wife as well and brought us to real life connections we'll always enjoyed.

It's nice to see Ko.Fe back and hopefully soon or later other friends will be back.

Absolutely correct. This forum stands out as one that remains reasonably active. I am (or have been) on many that have died out in recent years. All kinds of subject matter; sports, music, classic cars, model trains, etc, etc. Whenever the subject comes up, where has all the traffic gone? Always, the answer is, it has moved over to Facebook. Great if you like Facebook, I suppose, but not so great once you recognize Facebook's horrible archiving capabilities and the often overlapping, competing or redundant groups that spring up when the forum dies.

Bars is another dying living style. They became too selfish. I remember paying only two pounds for pint in UK in nineties. And each pub has its own ales and bitters. Came back in 2007 and it is gone with crap Stella sold everywhere and price of pint is rip-off.
Same in Toronto. Ten CAD for same tin sold for two at near by stores.
I have no problem to talk with people outside of pubs. Without overpriced beer.

Welcome back; we've missed you.

PS It's best not to judge English pubs by London versions. London is a tourist magnet and they pay for it but I worked in the centre and managed to eat and drink...

My only concern is the continued availability of film. As long as there are enough 35mm, 120, 4x5, photographers out there so that film continues to be manufactured, I'm happy.

I will continue to use my film cameras regardless of how many or how few others there are. I find film and film cameras fun. I like the results.

Digital is fine, I have a few such cameras, but that's not where much of my enjoyment is.

Like so many here, I'm hanging in and not contributing much, rather hoping that Helen will return soon to liven up our varied discussions.

Happy to see ko.fe back as I've always enjoyed his from-the-hip comments about all things photographic. Am also missing Huss, we have disagreed on a few points over the years but I relished his posts. Even when less than agreeable he was... interesting.

I appreciate the varied ideas, opinions and thoughts from so many even if we disagree over things we say. The debate is important and as long as discussions remain friendly and above all else polite and respectful of others, it is important to keep the flow of dialogue going.

This thread is a great delight to me during this sad pandemic crisis period. I enjoy the many directions the discussion has taken and I hope it will continue until the happy time in the future all our missing 'greats' cease being AWOL and return to the fold.

...

That is one reason why I started the Kodak stock thread. If Kodak starts pharmaceutical manufacturing, they may just decide to spin-off the film division. If they do not, they may go belly up! In either case, any profound change to Kodak film supply would have huge implications towards the availability of film in the future. Kodak is not my main film, but it is for many people.

...Say, do you think that when the Grand Apartments got a booking from two people from America they thought they should put on the event to make them feel at home? I am sorry that was entirely in jest (and poor taste) . I just hope you have a good sense of humor. Or at least as one as kinked as us Australians. :D:D:D

PS Glad you still think fondly of my home town. I am thinking of making a trip to McClaren Vale soon - its been a while what with COVID lockdowns and such and I need an excuse to get out and make some photos somewhere other than my usual haunts.

OK, this prompts another story (you are a glutton for punishment). In 1992 two of my cousins from Germany arrived at LAX to visit the USA. They intended to swing by and see us at some point, but ended up early. They got off the plane, drove around a little and got lost. They noticed a lot of people roaming around and fires, etc. They stopped and took a picture of the fires. It was exactly as the German news propaganda presented the USA at that time (It was exaggerated)! What they did not know is that they landed the night of the LA riots of 1992 (recall Rodney King). They got a little scared and came straight to our house rather than their planned stay near LAX.

Helen and Ko.Fe!

I am mightily encouraged to see you both!

A hearty Welcome Back!

- Murray

PS. Now we need to find a way to persuade Huss to return.

Mark you know thank you for sharing that with me. But if you or any of your family are planning on inviting me on trip, forget about it. I am staying at home.
