Well, before I did anything to the meter, I'd check the output of the battery. There is a specific reason I mention this, but it is based on heresay and so I am not sure it is true. Also, I like the hearing aid battery in the hollowed out shell trick personally. If you are not familiar with this, please let me know. I won't comment on foamies....

The output on the battery is 1.35 volts. I went out of my way to find a new mercury cell.

I actually think I'm going to go ahead and order up one of your kits; I did the foamies deal just so I could put some film through the camera ASAP.

If you turn the Canonet to Manual mode (off of "A"), it turns the meter off and stops draining the battery. I have Mercury Cell batteries that are older than you are, still going strong.

Natalie, the NEWEST camera that I use is as old as you are. And congratulations on the Bessa R2a with the 40mm Nokton. Look forward to seeing the pictures.

There's a place in the University district called "Jim's Cameras." Apparantly he's got a "guy" that goes and gets them from europe somewhere. He charged a premium: $19.

but I don't know *Anywhere* you can get one of these things and the consistant 1.35 voltage was worth it, I felt.

I'll be turning it off the automatic mode when i'm not using it, so It should last quite a while.

Hi, and welcome! It seems odd to say that since I've only been here a few days, but as anybody who knows me will tell you, I'm not shy. I'm also not 20 anymore, but the odd thing about aging is that my mind doesn't always understand I'm not 20 anymore. Sometimes I have to look into a mirror to convince it I'm not the young buck I once was. Anybody in the audience who remembers saying "I Like Ike" will understand this, I'm sure. I was a business major, too...with dual degrees in banking/finance & economics. I'm glad to see you're interested in photography. If you also want to learn about re-sealing that Canonet, I'm happy to help you there.

Hey Jon! Glad to see you made it to this forum, I'm sorry I didn't mention it to you; I just assumed you were here before me.
Just to let you know, the Contaflex I is doing fine. It's excellent performance is tempting me away from rangefinders---- I probably shouldn't say that here.
When you get the flash sync sorted out on the Contaflex II, I would definitely be interested in it, if you are willing to let it go. I'm attaching a photo of your dream retirement home here----

Somehow through thousands of conversations with thousands of people over years and years, nobody ever mentioned this forum to me. I suppose everyone thought I already knew about it, but I didn't. C'est la vie, amigo. I've actually got a Contaflex project or three on my plate, and the model II is one of them. In fact, this morning I got up early and I've disassembled the model I you had. I'm starting to see what we're up against, but I think I'll have it resurrected soon. It was an earlier model I, actually. Thanks for the picture! That is just how I remember it, all right. What a magnificent place that was. I see where some knucklehead drove his car into my favorite fried chicken place down on Swiss Ave yesterday. And I was planning on picking some up for a special Valentine's Day dinner. Maybe we'll go to Campisi's or BoBo China instead. Thanks again for the note and the image! I'll keep you posted on the Contaflex work.

Was like being 21, only a bit earlier 😀

The G-III 17 is without doubt the main gate to the RF world for a lot of us (even though my first one was a Fed-2...), anyway, just mention that I've been using one with the PX-625 alkaline replacement (1.5 V) and found the results consistent enough. With slide film they were correct, and with 400 ISO B&W, no problems at all 🙂
