Ok, heres the deal. I want to get a new 35mm scanner. I've narrowed it down to these choices- ( not really much narrowing down!)
1. Pakon F 135 ebay $375
2. Plustek 8200i SE $352
3. Nikon Coolscan V- refurbished $599
4. Prime Film XA- $399
I'm leaning towards the Pakon, but the software kind of scares me as I'm on a mac.
Reviews are all over the map on the XA and on the 8200. The Nikon is almost 15 years old, but then again so is the Pakon.
Being able to scan widelux negs would be a plus, although i do have an Epson 600 for that. Can the Pakon scan a widely/ Xpan neg?
Any input would be appreciated. Ken

I have a Canon fs4000us that I love, and it works well with the Mac. Very much like the Nikon Coolscan but can be found for much less. Maybe take a look at that one too? Bob.

I have a Plustek 8100, which is good for my use, 2 rolls a week. It packs away in its own carrying case. I don't scan the whole roll though, just the keepers. For xpan shots I scan it as two halves and stitch. I do use Vuescan rather than silverfast, it gave me the sh1ts.
