Help please!!

I've just recently decided to buy a camera so I can start taking pictures of my dog.
I bought a Leica M8 Chrome with a 6 Bit Leica 50mm f1 Noctilux M lens but i don't know how to use them!!:bang:

I want to take pictures of my dog but if I can't use my M8 and my new lense then i can't take pictures of him.

Can anyone help?

Suzy and her dog Boris

Dear Suzy...

It depends what kind of dog it is. Please advise.

Yours truly

Bat

Maybe she's real? Who knows, but it is a bit of a leap of faith.

Perhaps the dog picture will be proof of the pudding.

All,

Tell her to leave me alone. I don't want my picture taken. Tell her to take up street shooting or maybe portraits...just leave me alone.

Boris

Aww, c'mon Sooz! It's not that we don't buy your story, it just that we are, like, really, really jealous! Plus we've heard that the 6 bit Leica 50mm f1 Noctilux M lens doesn't take a very sharp picture with an M8 Leica digital camera. But hey! If Elliot E. can take doggie pics with a Leica, why not you?

Let's see!

ps, don't be put off by our gruff exterior. We are really nice and we want to believe in the existance of a Newbie Girl Shooter.

Well that's nice to hear. I've taken quite a few pictures of Boris and they're not too bad I think. I'll put them up when I actually learn how to.

Get yourself some (free)account from one of the famous photo sites (pbase, flickr, ...) and just upload. Short question, is this your first camera ? What made you decide to get an M8 + Noctilux ?

Baut Maddoc, didn't you read her previous answers? Her Grandma gave her that camera and I think her dad gave her the lens - such a sweet family!

It was my grandmother who bought me this camera when I got good grades at school. And then my Dad bought me the lens.

$11,500 of cameras for getting good grades? Times sure have changed. All I got from my folks for getting good grades was the absence of punishment. Good grades were an expectation.

That's easier than the camera inquiry....

That's easier than the camera inquiry....

And i just bought this Ferrari, and I wonder what the three pedals are for...

No problem... Two make it go, One makes it stop, and the big round wheel just above your lap makes it go where you want it to go. The one big round dial on the dash should always be between 4000 and 7000, through the judicious use of one of the pedals and the stick poking up through the floor to the right of the drivers position.

As far as the camera inquiry.... you should have bought a Ferrari. Oh, and I know that all the Leicaphyles will suggest that you did.

Jon:

The three pedals perform the following functions: Stop, Go, and Reverse. Just like the Ford Model T!

This is a joke, right?

Suzy,
If you really are for real and want to learn to use this camera, I suggest that you put that beautiful Noctilux away for a while and ask your Dad to purchase a CV 28, 35 or 50mm lens for you. The Noctilux is a specialized lens and would not be an easy lens to learn with. Put a CV lens on that M8 (cameraquest.com) and just shoot, shoot, shoot.
OK, Suzy, if you want to be taken seriously, tell us how we can help you and post some sample pics. It is hard for us to visualize a student being handed an M8 and a Noctilux, but there are lots of people on here who would help you if you asked a serious question.

Thank you for your help so far.

Thanks for your help so far :p

Suzy and her dog Boris (who is now in picture format :D)

i had linked this storyline to "tropic of cancer." my mistake. this is obviously a lolita-like story that is blooming.

Thanks for the support so far. I'm sort of new to this. The pictures have been uploaded but i don't know how to put them to this site (I'm useless at technology)

:)

I find Suzies' story curious, but not out of the realm of possibility, but then I live in an area of the USA where parents buy Subaru STIs for their 16 yr olds. At least she can't kill herself or anyone else with an M8/Noct combo, well not unless she hits some one in the head with it... I also feel this way, because I know adults who do the same thing, I once had a rich patient who went out and bought a whole new Hasselblad kit without any previous experience because he liked some to the prints I had in my office, and I told him I used a 25 yr old 500CM. That was after an entire Leica M6 kit that he estimated at close to $20K back in the early '90s. So in a word I believe it is possible......
