Which is a good reason. Also, people keep asking if I'm a Pro (well, 3 times this summer). This is odd, because pros use digital.

OTOH..if you're going to pair it w/ 35 lux asph, you may want the extra weight of a silver body to balance the kit better in your hands....play with it!!
 
Yes a silver MP with BRG leather and three frame lines with a 35mm lens.
Buy it, be happy with it until something else catches your eye and the whole want cycle starts all over again

It's ironic that when it comes to Leicas, devil's advocate=rational thinker 😀
 
So, I put on my M3 (for credibilty) and hobbled in on my crutches to one of the Leica dealers here. Guess what? He had a Leica a la carte with Racing Green for sale (at normal MP price). Unfortunately, it was silver chrome, which IMHO doesn't work. Probably takes pictures the same, but no.

Also, while the film wind on was really nice, the shutter release wasn't smooth at all! So I managed to leave it, muttering about needing to try out the alacarte website.

I then took a couple of pics on the M3, to steady my nerves. I believe this may be the first time I've taken pics with the lens cap on.

Anyway, emergency over (for the present) 🙂 Thanks for all your help.

PS. Did noone mention that the black paint was extra soft so that it would rub off quicker? That's just silly.
 
Well, I will as much as possible try to respond to the title thread:
-The MP as a very old and very slow (yet robust) rewind lever. So if you have to rewind a film you might be getting tired quite quickly!
-There is a damn light meter inside the body so you will find yourself not thinking about light itself and just follow the meter (wich is a drawback or an adavantage depending on a lot of factors including your prefferences)
-The MP is expensive
-The MP is very nice looking camera and may attracts bugglers (but it is just suppositions and suspicions
-Get an M4!

I know the MP is the camera I would have if I could afford it, so all of the above is just to strictly respond to the title thread! 🙂

I rewound my M3 only yesterday. Not a problem at all.

Sorry for the bad english, if buggler is what I read it is, it is not exactly what I was mean to say. I wanted to say burglar, if thats an english term, reffering to some low thefts on the street that want to darken your day by stealing your beautiful MP 😛

It's not bad English. Just not perfect. No need to apologise (unless it's your first language 😉 ) It was perfectly understandable - it just sounded funny.

What you probably meant was "mugger" derived from LUGer, i.e. Leica User Group. A MUGer is then an M-Leica user - and quite likely to attack you - in order to get his hands on your shiny MP.

A burglar breaks into houses.

I don't think someone on street realy nows what you are using while taking photos with a MP,
mostly they think it's a old camera and they are not realy interessted in that camera.
People don't think such a old fashiond film camera is very expensiv.
There is now big Leica name on it and the famos red dot is missing.
They even do not take care of you when you are taking photos.

This is one the features of this small splendit camera

That's funny, that's pretty much what I ended up with when I played with the configurator on the Leica website. I thought I was the only one out there into the British Racing Green... but on a black body... with chrome controls? Sorry, not my cup of tea.

But to be frank -- I lusted pretty hard after an MP until I played with one side by side with my M3. They are not really different enough to make the MP a leaps and bounds improvement over the M3 (says she who is happy using the framelines she has, which may be affected by the fact that she only owns one M lens). With an M3 and an M7 I'd think you already have the bases covered more or less. If I were you and I really wanted an MP, I'd probably sell the other two.

But hey, if you can afford it, why not?
